I just got back from Disney World and I had a great trips like always but had a not so happy experiance at Chef Mickey's. We went for dinner and got there an hour and a half early and checked it 2 hrs later we found out that they had messed up our reservations then turned it on us saying that nobody checks in that early. it took 3hr to get a table, i was furious. Thank goodness that the next night we went to Ohana and that was one of the best meals i had ever had.

I would never check in somewhere 1 1/2 hours early because you may also be waiting 30 mins to an hour over if they are extremely busy so that is probably why you waited 3 hours. I had a reservation at Ohana for 6:40 and didnt get the table until around 7:25. So i learned from this to always make an early Ohana reservation (4:30-5:00) and there is hardly a wait.

I agree with PP. Not only wouldn't I check in that early, I wouldn't wait 3 hours for a meal anywhere. Did OP ask to speak to a manager? I can't imagine that Disney wouldn't do something to accomodate. We've all had reservation issues, but I've never seen Disney behave in such a manner. To the OP, very sorry for your negative experience. I'll give you a ton of credit for patience to wait that long!

On our most recent trip, early check ins were not appreciated or accepted. I'm not saying this happens to everyone, but happened to our family. We never tried to check in more that 15 - 20 min, every time we tried to check in early we were told to wait until our reservation time. Were we running about 15 minutes late for our ADR at LeCellier and we were seated immediately and there were many folks waiting outside and the inside lobby area was full. :goodvibes

OP - Sorry about Chef Mickeys. I am glad you had a great dinner at Ohana's!

We had a great dinner there too! :)

So you checked in 1.5 hours early and then waited 1.5 hours after your reservation...

Yea, sounds like something that could happen at Chef Mickey's during free dining. If you check in early, you are not guaranteed to get in early. In fact, as you learned, you can still be forced to wait beyond your original reservation time. If they have people with earlier ADRs that are waiting, they will seat them first since your ADR isn't until later (and thus that time must have been okay with you).

Though, I would say they should have explained that to you.
