I was finally able to get an ADR for dinner at CM's one night at 9:20 in Sept. We've never eaten there before and I would like to try it. Is it worth it? We'll be missing fireworks for it, but we can see them another time. I'm worried with it being so late that it will be a bad time to go.

Should I keep it?

Yes, keep it. Especially if you have never been. While I do think that there are a few 'better' character meals, the only reason I skipped it this year is because it has been done and we are paying OOP for our TS.

I think if you have never been you really need to go at least once. I have never had a bad time there. I have other favorites for character meals but by no means do I think we had poor food or service there by way of comparison. If I was on the DDP I would have booked it again.

As far as late meals, I deliberately choose first and last sittings for our meals as I find it is less rushed. They still put out more food or will bring you more if you need any. Also you tend to get the characters when they are not under the peak time pressure which is great. Have a good meal. You will get some great photos there too. I see a picture of a little one in your signature - if she is going with you, don't miss it. :goodvibes

If your family can stay up that late to eat I think it's fine. I think me and the kids would be half asleep if we were eating a big meal at that time. Every family is different though. I was worried about being really tired at our 8:30pm reservations.

The food will be the same, the character experience might be better since the crowds may be gone. Only concern, eating that late at night. If your family can handle it - go for it.

Chef Mickey's is wonderful. We have been lucky enough to have been twice with our son. We also believe that we can keep going to Chef Mickey's no matter his age.

Here's my thought about buffets---an earlier seating is better than later. It seems that posts about disappointing buffet meals are usually a result of being one of the last to eat. The food just isn't as fresh and plentiful it seems.:confused3

Plus I'm a bit of a nut about clean food service and buffets get "sloppy" after a few hours of service. :hippie:

I've only been to Chef Mickeys for breakfast and we enjoyed it. My SIL and family went 2 years ago for dinner and didn't like the food at all.

DS wanted to go to Chef Mickey again this year for breakfast (after I already made all ADRS). When I frist checked there was nothing available. I then went online to Disney Dinning reservations a few times or more every day just check to see if anything opened up and one morning I saw a reservation for breakfast on the day I wanted, but it was later then I wanted, but I took it. I then kept checking and lo and behold one day there was a reservation for the same day I wanted at the time I wanted. In fact that particular day it seemed like ALOT of reservations opened up.

So I say if you want to try Chef Mickey'skeep what you have, and if you want a better time just keep on checking. With online reservations you can check as often as you like - so much easier then calling WDW DINE every day. If you see a reservation you want you can either book online or call WDW Dine (if its at a time when they are open).

I made a few ADRs online to replace ones I had (better times, different place) and then called WDW Dine to confirm the online ADR and cancel the one I originally made by phone. The onlien dining reservatiosn are very easy to do and from my experiecne so far reliable and convenient.

Good Luck

IF your kids are small and really would enjoy Mickey, Minnie etc characters then do it once...We did for DD. That being said we will NEVER do it again. I found it so loud I had a headache when we left.

As far as "sloppy" I have never seen so many little fingers in the buffet dishes anywhere else (due to the specific characters, I think there are more really little kids there). I saw more than one kid stick a finger in something, lick it and then stick it into something else. Or pick something up and then put it back. Ewww.

The food was typical for a buffet. The foods I did take a chance on (ie. waitress just put a new platter of it on the table) were mediocre at best.
