Chef Mickey's----What makes it great?

We've only been once and that was back in 2003 for breakfast. Since then we've added another little one to our brood and thought eating at CM's would be the perfect way to kick off our '09 vacation. We did enjoy the breakfast back in 2003, I guess what worked for us is that we went on a non-park day so we had 10 or 10:30 ressie(I can't remember exact time) but I think for us that was the ticket to such a great time; the crowds were much less so there were no waits for us, the food was pretty typical buffet food but pretty good I thought, the picture at the begining was taken and we were pleased with the it so much we purchased a package and I still have one of the fridge magnets on our fridge now and I'm looking forward to adding another one it with our new addition.

I think people's expectations of buffets are too high sometimes, for the most part it's simple food, not that it can be good because I've had good food from buffets before in and outside of Disney but come on now folks it's not like you're likely going only for the food. Another reason why I'm looking forward to dining at CM's is I know that my kids will probably meet a few characters and have autographs and pics taken, so we can sort of bypass the long lines at the park to meet them-well the main ones at least.

Tiger perhaps it was because it was our first meal of the holiday & we were jet-lagged that we fell for it ,but definately felt pressurised into buying-especially as "they" are delivering the same packages to the tables beside you! As it was our first time at CMs we didn't really think about bypassing this queue as we still weren't sure how things worked but will definately know for next time!

So what makes Chef Mickey's so great. Why does everyone love the place? Anyone not like it?

Its our MUST EAT breakfast...With and without the kids!!!! We eat there everytime we go....The food is great, atmosphere is great, CM's are great...Worth every single penny...Blows Ohana out of the water.....

Regarding the photo - You don't need to get the photo done at all. They want you to do it for 2 reasons:

1) They sell a lot of photos (even though the photos here are horrible), so it's profit for them.

2) It's a way to pass the time while waiting - the waits for Chef Mickey's are astronomical. You have to wait in a huge line just to check in for your ADR that you made 180 days prior, and then another line line to be seated. This way, by pushing families through a photo op, it passes the time and allows them to keep the waiting area from being as congested.

Sorry you felt pressured - we have been to Chef Mickey's 4x and did the photo 1x. It was awful, so we never purchased it at all!

Never waited more than 10 minutes for breakfast, and our pics have always been phenomenal...If we did not like the photo, they re-took them for us.....The characters interacted with us great!!

Chef Mickeys, in the words of Randy Jackson, is DA BOMB!

You are very lucky! We have waited each of our visits there - the last time for a party of 4 (2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby) we waited 20 mins to get through check in line, and then another 15 mins to be seated. The longest we waited to be seated was for 45 mins (not counting the 10 mins to check in) for my hubby's birthday a few years ago. There were 5 people in our party.

Glad some of you are having good experiences here - after 4 bad experiences, we won't be back, so more tables for the rest of you.:thumbsup2

CM is always our first night's meal. the food is good, but the characters, autographs, and napkin dance is the beginning of our magic. the kids request to go. If you have a special occasion, birthdays,etc.. then this is the place to make memories. My sons always remind us of mickeys visit to our table with a cupcake and a song for thier birthdays(every year X 5).love it.:hippie:

This is one character meal we don't have planned but my son is now waaay into Mickey Mouse clubhouse. Who knew?

Hmmmm.....just might have to do it. Wonder what the chances are in getting an ADR for Saturday, June 13? Hahaha.

Chef Mickey's is a tradition to us- we love it- we always go during our WDW trips. We have been for breakfast and dinner- we prefer dinner. Love the character interaction, the food is buffet food, it's fine with us.:goodvibes
