Chef Mickey's versus Wave Breakfast Buffet?

We'll be staying at the Contemporary. We're used to staying at hotels with free breakfast, where we head downstairs for breakfast, freshen up in the room, then hit the road. Since I understand the Wave has a buffet now, we're trying to decide between Chef Mickey's for breakfast and The Wave's breakfast buffet.

Which will give us faster service, and which has more of a variety of food? We have the Deluxe Dining Plan, so don't worry about too much credits. And we may do this for breakfast every day, so variety is important.

I love a cheese omelet. My husband is a meat and potatoes man, and likes a full hot breakfast. We both like grits, especially with shredded cheese added. We're not into cold cereals or oatmeal.

We're in our early fifties, but kids at heart, so we don't mind the characters at Chef Mickey's. We just don't want to have to wait around for a waiter for service, want a meal that will tide us over, rather than a grab and go, then head to the parks. We'll probably have late lunch, maybe around 1:00 pm, so want enough to hold us until then.

Do either The Wave buffet or Chef Mickey's have beverage self serve? Juice, coffee?

Thanks for any info!

personally, i would go with both... do CMs on a morning when you are less rushed as it does take longer if you are interested in seeing the characters...

do the wave the rest of the mornings, this is what their menu on allears says: Our All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Breakfast Buffet - A perfect option if you want a hearty yet speedy meal before enjoying the parks!

however, you might want to also take a monorail ride to the poly for a visit to kona cafe or perhaps a quick b'fast in the bakery on main street in MK!

I'd go with the wave. We found the food the be better and the service was MUCH quicker. CM is notorious for being late. Plus at the wave 90% of the time you won't need an ADR for breakfast and there is a full service menu if you don't want the buffet on a certain day.

I have the same question.

Here are my impressions from reading reviews:

Chef Mickey's - longer wait to get in, noisier, more kid-oriented, more crowded, more selection, food is more conventional (and about average quality for a Disney character breakfast buffet)

The Wave - shorter wait to get in, quieter, more adult-oriented, less crowded, less selection, food is less conventional (e.g., whole wheat waffles, etc.) but of somewhat higher quality (although not to the level of Boma's breakfast) and purportedly heathier

Would be interested to see if someone who has eaten recently at both would agree.

The Wave is very nice and usually empty. Key Lime Eggs Benedict, sweet potato pancakes with maple walnut butter, whole wheat waffles, lox and bagels - the list goes on, the selection isn't huge but you don't get all that greasy "crap" that Chef Mickey's has. There are the standards of potatoes, eggs, sausage, bacon, delicious pastries too. Add a Bloody Mary and you're good to go!

I was worried that since the Wave has gone to a breakfast buffet, it would be the greasy "crud" that one experiences at most hometown breakfast buffets.

I want to get the healthy choices, like the sweet potato pancakes, but was worried I'd have to take a long time to order from the menu and those wouldn't be available on the buffet.

If the same stuff is available on the buffet that is on the menu, then why offer both?

And, if one gets the Wave buffet, can you also get a made to order omelet?

What characters are at Chef Mickey's?

And is there a view from Chef Mickey's? Because I get the impression that there aren't even windows in The Wave.

If I can get an omelet at Chef Mickey's, and get a good view, I'll be happy.

But I don't know that I could deal with that craziness every morning!

we were just at CMs last week and i do not recall an omelet station (much to my dismay)...
there can be a view in CMs, but obviously no guarantee...
i would consider room service a morning or two if you have the credits available :)
