:confused3 Ok, so on my initial schedule, we (I) have us going to the Animal Kingdom on Tuesday 10/17....should we go on over to Chef Mickey's for DS's 5th birthday dinner or do we go to the Rainforest Cafe??!!?? We have our own car, so transportation is not an issue.

Any and all opinions are welcome.

I would say chef Mickeys. One of the characters might carry out a cake if you order it ahead of time.

RFC is two thumbs down in my book.

Chef Mickey's all the way.

CHEF MICKEY is the place to go.....and tell them ahead of time and they will have a placemat and birthday cupcake for the birthday boy or girl. they even will do it for an adult i think...

Chef Mickeys by far surpasses RFC. The atmosphere at CM alone is worth it.

We will be there when my children turn 5 and we are going to Chef Mickey, I haven't ordered cake(s) yet but I am planning to.

Chef Mickey's!!!

My kids received laminated, autographed placemats when we were there in Oct. 2004 for their 5th b-day. I was going to order a cake as well, but opted for the free birthday cupcakes instead- they loved them!

I agree that Chef Mickey's is a must-do. However, just to give you another perspective, we chose the Rainforest Cafe for our son's 4th bday lunch. Here's why: We always go to Chef Mickey's on our arrival day, and this trip was no exception. Our son's bday was a couple of days later, so we'd already been there. Secondly, our son adores animals. We chose the AK on his bday because he loves them so, and we had animal themed presents, decorations and cupcakes that I brought with us back in the room. Third, we have a Rainforest Cafe here, and he loves it. He's only ever been twice, and he asks to go often.......we know the menu, too, so we know we like the food...........we like Chef Mickey's atmosphere, but we like the food at RFC better. Finally, I'd just like to let you know that we told them it was his bday, and they asked if we'd like for them to bring him out a bday treat (don't know what it would've been), but I told them we'd already planned to get him a volcano. A volcano is two scoops of ice cream, surrounded by four giant slices of chocolate cake with chocolate icing, and chocolate syrup all over the thing. There's a sparkly topper on it (used to use real sparklers a while back, but I knew that wouldn't last!). Anyway, they brought it out, WITH candles, which they lighted and had him blow out, and all the servers surrounded him and clapped and sang for him. He loved the attention, he got to blow out candles on his bday (I had brought the cupcakes with us for this express purpose), he got this TREMENDOUS-sized dessert, very special, not like cupcakes which are nice, but not so EXCITING.
So, if I did another bday at Disney, and those were my choices, again, because we already do Chef Mickey's traditionally, because kids love the animals and fish tanks at RFC, because we like the food, and because of our last experience there, I'd choose RFC.

Rainforest Cafe is worse than Nine Dragons, and that is saying something.

It is interesting that with one exception, Chef Mickey's is the clear favorite.

i really like both places, but i think chef mickey's is better suited for a 5 yr. old's b-day dinner

Another vote for Chef Mickey's. :thumbsup2 We went last year for DS 5th bday and he loved it!! They gave him the plastic place mat signed by the characters (as mentioned above). He has it hanging in his room.

No way. RFC is fair. Which makes it much better than Nine Dragons. For your 5 year old, I would Chef's Mickeys but considering the age I don;t think its the slam dunk the otheres here do.

Chef Mickey's hands down here too!!!!! We've been to RFC at WDW as well as up here at the Mall of America and I'm afraid they just are okay in our opinions. We never choose to go there unless we're with someone that has never been and wants to go. Nothing is as special as MICKEY'S!!!! Especially for a 5th BD!!!!

Chef Mickey is the place to be for party time disney style , its magical and fun for children with the characters coming around, the singing and picture taking at the entrance, all the kids menu and yummy dessert station with the many toppings for the ice creams. it is an all you can eat buffet style with a happy atmosphere. :bday: :cake:
