I've only ever been to Chef Mickeys in 2005 for breakfast. It was ok, nothing grand or anything. Just pleasant atmosphere. I can get either Cape May or Chef Mickey's for dinner. What say you?;)

In my opinion they are totally different. Yes, they are both buffets, but they are really different creatures. First off, if you are looking for characters Chef Mickey's is your only option as far as dinner goes. And while we do like Chef Mickey's for dinner, Cape May wins for food. The Cape May Clambake was the really, really good and this is coming from a vegetarian. :thumbsup2 My husband is not a huge seafood lover and he really enjoyed his meal. I've never seen him eat seconds for soup and he did here! My son also really loved the clam chowder. Our son is the seafood lover and he tried a bit of everything. It was truly an enjoyable meal for everyone.

I think it depends on what your family would enjoy. On our trip last month we did dinner at both. Cape May, to me, has better food. You have some good seafood options like crab legs and fish fillets and chowder, as well as items for those you don't like seafood (my wife doesn't eat seafood and enjoys Cape May). The food isn't the best, but it's better than Chef Mickeys. Both, by the way, have some fun dessert options.

Chef Mickeys, of course, has characters. While my DD8 liked eating the crab legs at CMC (and cracking them open even more - she started to do mine, too), seeing Mickey, Minnie, etc. was better to her. Your kids are a bit older than mine on the whole, so that needs to factor in.

All of this, then, doesn't answer your question. If I had to pick only one, I'd probably do Chef Mickeys just for the joy on the kids' faces when they spot Mickey for the first time. But neither one is a bad choice.

We did both on our last trip.

I have a DD 11 and a DS 8. They both liked the characters at CM. The food was okay and the character interaction was good.

They both enjoyed the food much more at Cape May. They are both seafood lovers and enjoyed the food much more at Cape May as did we.

It all depends on what you want. I would choose Cape May for the seafood for my family but if you want the Fab 5 then you will want to do CM.

Here are my thoughts and pictures from Cape May are here if you would like to take a look.

Also, my thoughts and pictures from Chef Mickey's are here.

Hope this helps some. :)

We have eaten at both many times over the years and they are both great, IMO. But if I had to choose just one, my choice would be Cape May :).

We love them both for breakfast but prefer Cape May Clambake for dinner...Chef Mickeys is just pretty ick

We had to make this choice for our most recent trip and Chef Mickey's won out--because we were looking for a character meal that wasn't breakfast. I would definitely have tried Cape May (it's gotten great reviews from a number of friends of ours), so maybe next trip....

We ate at both of these places on our recent trip. We liked both of them, for different reasons. For us, Chef Mickey's was a great way to start our trip. The food was fine (not the best ever, but certainly not terrible). The characters were good. If you are relying on Disney transportation, it is much easier to get to Chef Mickey's than to Cape May. It was a breeze to hop on the monorail at Magic Kingdom and get off at the Contemporary. For Cape May, we ended up taking a taxi---at that point in our trip, we were pretty exhausted, and the idea of taking the bus from our hotel to a park to another hotel and back again, just for dinner, was more than we could take.

I would pick Cape May!!:) We really like the food here. It is not only for seafood lovers. We have been to Chef Mickeys for dinner and we just don't like the food. We decided we will go back for breakfast sometime....but never for dinner again.

I agree. Chef Mickeys is blah. I personally am not a big fan. I dont even like the atmosphere. The characters are great thou. i guess it boils down to how important the characters are to you. But my vote goes to Cape May.

I vote for Cape May. I think the food is better. I went there for dinner on my 30th bday and had a blast! Granted, I love Mickey, but I usually just go to Chef Mickey's for breakfast.

If you don't care about characters, then Cape May gets my vote by a mile. The food at Chef Mickey's was by far our least favorite. I also was surprised by how few choices they had at Chef Mickey's. Cape May had such a huge selection and most of it was very good.

Totally agree with the above PP. The food at Chef Mickeys was not good and the place was just really dirty & crowded. My husband said "never again" after that meal. We loved Cape May. So relaxed & such a nice atmosphere. The food was great with a good selection.

Cape May...We do it every trip. After our last Chef Mickeys..We vowed never ever again..The dinner was rushed, dirty and the food was meh..The characters were the only positive.

I'm with you-our last experience was the same as yours, and we won't be going back either!Cape May is a must do...TWICE each trip-we love it!!:thumbsup2 We see the characters elsewhere.

I haven't done Cape May, but the food at Chef Mickey's is truly awful -- and I'm a buffet lover! I didn't even like the salad and bread, which are two things I think are hard to screw up. The character interaction is amazing, though! We went in January 2010 and Mickey sat down and hung out with us for a good while. My nephews LOVED that! But even the older two said it still didn't make up for the lousy food. :rotfl::rotfl:
