Just off the phone with disney dining reservationist and was told that they have just opened Chef Mickey's for lunch time during the month of August due to the increase in number of visitors. I was finally able to get a reservation there and I am so happy because it is a family ritual for us to dine there......I am so happy!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Okay, just got off the phone with them. Hours are 12:30 to 2:50 and the menu is:

salad bar
deli bar
build a sandwich bar
chipotle chicken
Texas barbecue pork ribs
some sort of salmon entree
frajitas
vegetable lasagna
spoon bread
baked beans
vegetable medley
corn

And there WILL be characters. Hope that helps!

That is exciting news! I wonder if they will continue this after August? We usually do CM's for breakfast, but I am still happy to hear this!

Oh now Im worried about the crowds during late Aug..I told DH they werent bad..Yikes..

I just called to see if Chef Mickey's lunch was avail for September. I was told thru September 4th only at this time - although it's possible it may be extended. Just a heads up for everyone! :)

I really hope this doesn't mean big crowds in late August. My entire justification for going in the heat/humidity was that the crowds would be lower. :guilty:

Is this for the entire month of August or only starting on the 13th when the free dining starts? We are going on the 10th and would like to have lunch somewhere nice before our dining plan kicks in

Thanks to the OP for the heads up.

I called & changed our breakfast ADR to a lunch one as soon as I saw your post. However, once I saw the menu, I changed my mind. I had assumed (you know what that does... :rolleyes1 ) the lunch menu would be similar to the dinner one. Since it wasn't (& didn't see much that would appeal to my young kids), I couldn't see keeping the lunch time reservation.

Although the timing was better, the food didn't seem so. Thank goodness I was able to get it switched back. :thumbsup2

I am hoping the crowds aren't any larger, just in more need of sitdown options to accomodate the free dining. Maybe it will mean shorter lines in the parks with everyone sitting down to eat?

Okay..time to wake up from that dream & go to bed. :cloud9:

I'm so sorry, I should have specified that the menu I posted was what the cast member said was a 'sample menu' but it sure had a lot of stuff on it for just a 'sample menu'. I assume that's pretty much what it will be, but I wanted to be clearer. I forgot one other item....penne pasta with chicken.

I agree that the dinner menu sounds better but that the lunch timing is better! I would also assume there would be some sort of 'kid bar' with mac and cheese and burgers....but I'm just assuming.

I'm guessing this is the case. Last year we went at the end of August. The crowds were very low, but it was almost impossible to get an ADR at a popular restaurant.

I just made/changed reservations for the Sci Fi and Plaza Restaurant with no problem. I also made an ADR at the Maya Grill for 6 people. The problem doesn't seem to be too many people, but too many people who want to eat at popular places like CM because it's free!

I would guess if the lunch seating fills up in August it will be extended through the rest of the free dining promotion.

We were at CBR last September during free dining (we were not participating in that). We had made a couple ADRs about two months before our trip - O'hana's and Kona Cafe, Princess Storybook Breakfast and Fantasmic dinner package. On more than one occassion, we walked up to a TS restaurant and were able to get in without trouble. I know for certain we went to 50's Primetime for lunch one day. Granted, we went to the restaurants "early" before lunch or dinner crowds would normally show up, but it worked for us. The parks were not very crowded at all, and we walked onto most rides, if not for maybe a 5-10 minute wait some places. Since it's the second year of free dining, it's possible more people are clueing into the value of this offer and it may be more crowded than last year, but because it comes when most people are just getting back to school and it is hurricane season, I would guess that although the TS places might be busy, the crowds shouldn't be swamped (except maybe with some rain) Have a great trip :thumbsup2

I would love this! We love to hit MK early and then leave around lunchtime. That would be perfect to just walk over to CM's for lunch. Hope they keep it around.

I wouldn't worry about it.. You may have more people staying on property to take advantage of the free dining, but remember all the off site locations will probably have even less guests due to those guests that normally stay "off property" taking advantage of the free dining.

we've been going the last few Septembers and didn't notice an increase in the crowds.

Last Aug (late) we went for the free dining and the crowds werent bad but they were more ppl then I expected for that time of yr. More than there was in late Aug 2003 thats for sure back then everything was walk on. Last yr we didnt have too many waits and I think the only thing we really waited for was Soarin. I hope thats how it is this yr because I am gonna have some cranky men on my hands if its HOT and its crowded!

:wizard: Did anyone ever find out the cost for lunch?
