chef mickeys for intimate reception - is this wierd?

we've got chef mickeys booked for our intimate reception for 9 people in november (the reasoning behind this is that DH2B and his family are scottish and so would appreciate an all you can eat more than a fancy dinner, and thought it'd be fun to have character dinner)
do you think this is a bit wierd going to such a kid orientated restaurant for our wedding meal? has anyone seen any other brides there or has anyone been there after their wedding?

Haven't done it yet, but I am planning on 1900 Park Faire for our "wedding" dinner after our vow renewal.

Have a great time! Chef Mickey's is a family favorite for us!

Don't think it is weird at all. That was one of the choices I had really wanted to go with for my wedding. That or 1900 Park Faire but we ended up staying at the Poly for the entire day which worked out well for us.

I think if it is what you want then you should do it. We just had our first dinner at Chef Mickey's a few weeks ago. To be truthful I was a bit dissappoited at the character interaction. We were there an hour and a half and never did see Goofy. Minnie Mouse was the only one who spent more than a few brief moments at our table of 5 children. I'm sure that it might be different at different times. But it is a fun atmosphere and I'm sure we will do it again.
I thought the food was pretty good, but my dh disagreed. But he's a picky eater so don't put too much into that.
A great character meal I've heard is Crystal Palace and it's all you can eat. But it is in Magic Kingdom.

I'm currently torn between chef mickeys (for the characters) or whispering canyon - as we are seeing wishes from WL. I was was worrying we'd be overdressed - I don't care if people think it's odd for a wedding dinner it's our day and this is Disney so hardly traditional besides if we splashed out on V&A neither of us would eat anything!

Let us know what you decide - and if you get reservations - I think I'd better decide quick as we may not get a table for 8 otherwise!!!

I would do it where ever you wanted to.. We wanted to be at Epcot after our intimate wedding - since my DH loves italian we are having our dinner at L'Orignale Alfredo's

i'd already made the priority seating reservation at the 90 days out mark cos wanted to make sure they could fit us in, was just wondering if i'd made a good choice. going to go with it cos i wanted mickey at the reception but couldnt justfiy the cost and its the next best thing. i'd decide where you want to go asap as a group booking is obviously harder to get than a small one.
if anyone is at chef mickeys on the 21st at 5.30, look for the woman in the big dress and the guy in a kilt!!!!

Chef Mickey's is fun, but I personally like the Crystal Palace. The characters will go by your table several times during the meal and spend time with you, the food is excellent too. Whispering Canyon is also a fun place to eat, besides who can really pass up the bottom less shake? Those are hard choices but all good food.

I wish this was something we would have done - unfortunately we hadn't done any character meals before the wedding so I was worried about how it would turn out. Then, on our honeymoon, when we tried a character meal for the first time, I realized how much fun we would've had if we did that instead of tea at the GF! So have a blast, it's not weird at all, and think of all the great character pictures you'll get

I definitely dont think its weird at all! Im doing it too! I am having an intimate wedding on December 9, 2005 and only having 6 guests, two of whom are children. I too wanted and at my wedding but on a strict budget and not even being able to upgrade the photo package because of the money, I certainly couldnt justify the cost for characters either.

My wedding was originally planned to be just my groom and I and then my two best friends insisted that they would be there. I dont mind, but I didnt think they would be able to make it, so we planned on having no guests. Now we are paying for dinner for 8 people instead of two Thank goodness I have an AP this year and bought the DDE discount card! On top of being able to have the characters and have our pix taken in our tux/gown a buffet was the easiest way to go for controlling cost. They can eat all they want and my bill will stay the same.

The crystal palace is beautiful and they have the pooh characters, (Tigger is my fave ) but you CANNOT wear your gown into the parks . You cant even remotely look like a bride and groom. I dont mean you cant wear ears or just married t-shirts. I mean you cant change into simple white dress and a suit and think they will let you in the park. And since Crystal Palace is IN the Magic Kingdom you cant do it. I wanted to have dinner in the castle for our reception but when I found out I would have to take my gown off to do it, I decided to go with Chef Mickeys.

For anyone that doesn't know it, the Cinderella's Gala Feast at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian is supposed to be Cinderella and Prince Charming's wedding celebration. So if you want to have a "double celebration" go for it. If you're like me and dont want to share your wedding reception with a beautiful princess , then dont book it! LOL

It is Disney's way of preventing people from getting married in the parks without going through their Disney Wedding Department. Many people have held weddings in their hotel rooms or suites on Disney Property without going through the DFTW department and Disney loses money on this.

Park weddings cost around $52,000 for a Magic Kingdom Castle wedding. They have put them on hold for a while and arent even sure they are bringing them back. The only way to get into the park in a wedding gown is to book the Magic Kingdom Castle photoshoot which is done around 6am before the park opens or after 10 pm (depending on the season) when the park is closed and costs $800 to have done.

OR by booking a custom wedding package which means you are spending a minimum of $10-15,000 on your wedding and even then you cannot walk around the parks dressed. You can only go in for your reception or dessert party and have to be escorted at all times by your Event Manager, to and from the reception/party.

Disney's official line is "For the safety of all parties involved, we do not allow wedding attire in the Theme Parks. You can, however, wear your wedding attire to any Resort Restaurant such as Narcossess's, the California Grill, The Yachtsman Steakhouse, Citrico's and Victoria & Albert's." I took that right from the Q&A document that was included in my DFTW planning packet.

I have also been told DFTW that if they allowed brides and grooms into the parks in wedding attire they would be bombarded by little girls who thought they were "character princesses." I can understand that, but since we dont all look like Cinderella, I dont see it happening to much! LOL.

This was a huge part of the reason that I booked Chef Mickeys for my intimate reception. I wanted to stay in my gown, I want character pix in my gown, and I want to have a "reception" of some sort. I also booked a wishes cruise for right after my dinner at Chef Mickeys that would leave from the Contemporary dock but its just my luck that it is one of the MVMCP nights and there wont be fireworks during the usual fireworks cruise times!! No wonder I was able to get it booked! Who wants a fireworks cruise without fireworks? I really was hoping to have pix of us dressed with fireworks above us. Now instead of the cruise, we are going for drinks and dancing at the Atlantic Dance Hall on the boardwalk (where I can wear my gown) and hopefully we can catch the illuminations show from the balcony. I have heard that you can see it from there, so Im keeping my fingers crossed!

OH, now Im jealous! That you will definitely have to tell me about. I havent cancelled mine yet, I have until 48 hours prior to cancel, but since there wont be fireworks guaranteed during my cruise, whats the point? I dont want to sit out on the lake in the dark with my new husband and the 2 couples that are coming to the wedding. I wanted to see something! I havent cancelled it because if they decide to make the time of the cruise later and we can see the MVMCP fireworks then I will do that, but if they keep the cruise time for the same time as the regular wishes show then Im cancelling since they dont do Wishes at the regular times on MVMCP nights, only the holiday edition of the show later on. Im keeping my fingers crossed that somehow, some way I get to see fireworks and take pix!

Funny you should say that, because I plan on it next year! I told my fiance that I plan on wearing that gown in the park one way or another!!! And if it takes me until Halloween to do it then fine!

Im hoping to take my kids and my DH to Disney next year in October for the MNSSHP and have us all dress as a "bridal party". Then I can get family photos in the park with all of us dressed! and we could celebrate our first anniversary early as a family since my kids cant come with us for the wedding. I just cant afford to fly the four of them from NY and pay for the resort and food and rent tuxes and the whole bit. It breaks my heart, but I just cant manage it since we are already cutting into our house down payment for the wedding and we have to get a new place to live before February when my landlord wants us out because hes selling our house! (but I digress, sorry).

I wonder how many people have gone as brides and grooms to MNSSHP. Anyone here done it? If not, I guess I will have to report back next October!
