Chef Mickey's disgusted me

We used to always go every trip and the food was great. Then one time when it was only my DD (now 17) and me on the last trip and she even said the food is not what it used to be. I by far think that Cape May Cafe is almost the best (non character) buffet at WDW, the best Character Dinner buffet is 1900 parkfare.

I'm sorry you had such a bad time at Chef Mickey's. We've had dinner there in the past and enjoyed it, although it was two years ago so it sounds like it may have changed since then. I hope your other meals went better then your time at Chef Mickey's.

Hi,
We've always done the Chef Mickey breakfast at least twice during our vacation.
The food has been good, the characters great, and the cleanliness good.
After reading the reviews on the dinner, I would approach with caution, as it seems most people do not enjoy this.

We've gone twice (we always try to give each place two tries in case of an "off" night). We wish we had stopped after one. The service was non-existent--took 20 minutes to get drinks; the food was lukewarm and medicore...and that's when there was food and you didn't wait 10 or 15 minutes for them to refill an empty station; the tables were never cleared of dishes, the tables were sticky as was the floor where our feet rested. It just was not a good situation--either time.

Oh No!! I have ressies for H&V for the Fantasmic Show when we go! Now what?? I really wanted to see the show and that was the only place we could get into with a party of 7 for the show package... Even though I called on my day 90!

I have never been to Chef Mickey's but I was planning on going in January. Not that it is an excuse but could it be because of the late reservation that the restrooms were messy and the food was not that great? Maybe it was sitting out for a while? Thanks for your review. This is good to know!

That's what I would think.

Breakfast is awesome there though!

Sorry OP, that really stinks. I have no desire to do dinner there, but I have found that when you go to the restaurants when they first open, the food is really really good.

The prime rib I was so looking forward to be beef instead. While the beef tasted good, it was surrounded by fat that I had to avoid to while eating it.

Ok, maybe I'm missing something here, but this part of the story has me completely baffled. It sounds as if the OP was wanting prime rib, but they served "beef" instead. It also sounds as if the OP was shocked/disgusted by the fact that the beef had large pieces of fat around it.

Prime rib is beef. And it almost always has a fair amount of fat that have to be cut around. That's what it is, at least every place in the country I've ever ordered it. Now, some places trim their prime rib more than others, but when getting it off of a buffet somewhere, I've never seen it not have quite a bit of fat.

There has been a lot of discussion here recently about Disney removing prime rib from all the buffets and substituting with some other, many would suggest, inferior cut.

Chef Mickey's isn't my favorite buffet (Boma is), but the last time I was there I thought the food was quite good and better than the time before.

So sorry that you had a bad experience at Chef Mickey's. We've been twice, and both times were for breakfast, and the food was good. But the reason we really go is for our youngest. Our older kids say they don't care, but they like to get their pictures taken with Mickey and company!

Only at WDW would people accept ok food for $30 bucks a person. Yes you have the characters but you can get them in the parks for free.

I read on another thread that a mom of a son with a peanut allergy was thrilled with Chef Mickey's. In an effort to serve the growing number of people with nut allergies Chef Mickey apparently is now nut free. She was happy that her son was finally able to eat off a buffet.


I have never eaten at CHef Mickey's, but we are planning breakfast for our upcoming trip. Hopefully our experience is more positive.

Chef Mickey's isn't nut free. My son has a nut allergy and we went there early June. They can't take EVERYTHING out to accomodate nut allergies. As a parent I understand this. The chef came out and discussed what was safe/unsafe for our son to eat. Just because you don't "see" nuts doesn't mean they aren't there. I do applaud thier effort to keep allergy folks clean but I don't think the nuts weren't there becuase of this issue. And trail mix, which was said to be there, has nuts anyway.

Food was okay at Chef Mickeys. The night I went though it rained and there were literally 3 places in the restraunt with holes in the ceiling letting waterfalls of rain pour into the restraunt. They had multiple buckets out and one of the waterfalls was dead center in the middle of a customer's table.

When we ate dinner there last July at the request of DS(25) for his birthday, we paid over $35 per adult. That probably included tip since we were a party of six. The three women in the group didn't eat enough food to constitute a child's plate. As was originally said, this is like a high school cafeteria with the noise, the trash (around the tables, not the bathroom), and the institutional food. The buffet last week at Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare seemed very similar but at least they were cleaner. After our experience last year, we have dropped CM from our list of eating spots. After the bad food, we still had to get the manager to get all of the characters to come by our table.

We have done Chef Mickey for breakfast twice but never for dinner. Breakfast has always been terrific and so much fun. I am not a big fan of any dinner buffets. We even just did BOMA (after hearing so many great things about it) and I hated it! I thought everything was so tasteless! But I would definitely try a breakfast there!

I realize I may be in the minority, but we had an awful dinner experience at Chef Mickey's last August and will NEVER go back The food was dry and tastless, poor choices, very noisy environment and the ice cream machine was just giving out ice cream soup We were extremely disappointed The only saving grace was the character interaction. I think everyone has to decide for themselves and will have different experiences and reactions. That is what makes the world so much fun

We have never had dinner at CM, but breakfast several times. We loved eating there as the atmosphere was great for kids and families. Well, that is until last month. We had a situation similar to the OPs. Our ADR was for 10:50am and we waited and waited and people coming in after us were being seated well I was getting upset so at 11:20 I went to the podium to see what was up and I was told we would be seated in a few minutes. After being seated we learned how to wait some more before our waitress came to take our drink order. We went and got our plates and I have to say the food was really good. We enjoyed it, but the characters were real slow and our waitress was non existen. This was May 17th and today is June 24th and we still don't have our orange juice.

We have also stopped eating at CM after a few tries. I just could not get past the dirtiness of the place and we were fine at 1900, H and V, Tusker, and CP. CM is just that dirty--the buffet area and the floors. Food was about the same as other buffets but did seem to have more cheap choices than the other buffets. Getting drinks or refills was super super slow. For whatever reason the place always feels totally chaotic with kids running around and yelling and tugging on characters out of turn and we havn't had those experiences at other character meals. Breakfast may be a better option but I wouldn't go back for dinner and we always went right at 5 for first seating and it was dirty then so can't imagine how awful it would be by 9 ;P

Also to the OP I missed when you went but when Disney is busy like it is now things can get pretty gross. Was it a crowded day?

I read a little further and I see this.. Oh well at least they are trying. Nut allergies really are on the rise so I am glad they are making the effort.


Also I am curious as to what time of year some of you went. I have been both in peak and slow times and while it may not be constant rule its seems that restaurants are much cleaner in slow season and much more dirty during peak times.

Not a excuse , especially for those prices but something to consider.
