Chef Mickey's disgusted me

I recently ate at Chef Mickey's on May 30th. I had a 9:20 reservation for two. I was really looking forward to the buffet as I am a huge prime rib fan. I was looking forward to the all you can eat aspect. Unfortunately all you can eat was more like all you can stand to eat.

Upon arriving for our reservation I noticed people with the same amount of people in their party getting seated before my wife and me even though they arrived after we arrived. I complained to the staff and magically my table was ready. The manager came by and apologized and offered us 30% off our bill. I appreciated the fast and courteous service of the management. We also weren’t charged for the one alcoholic beverage we both had. I was surprised how strong the drink was, but perhaps they wanted to get you drunk, so you wouldn't notice how terrible the food was.

The best way I can describe the quality of the food is to compare it to public school food. The ravioli tasted like it came from a can. My wife had a bad cheese cube with her salad. The mashed potatoes were of a glue consistency. The prime rib I was so looking forward to be beef instead. While the beef tasted good, it was surrounded by fat that I had to avoid to while eating it. Everything else on the buffet was bland and just not good food in the least.

After hearing about their famous dessert bar that to was disappointing. How you can have an ice cream bar without peanuts is beyond me. I know they had trail mix, but I don't want all that other stuff in my ice cream. I enjoyed the cheesecake squares and the Mickey domes, but after the awful food this was little conciliation.

I did not use the bathroom, but my wife did. She said the bathroom was disgusting. She said there was toilet paper and garbage all over the floor. This was by far the worst bathroom I was the worst I saw while at Disney.

Please stay far away from Chef Mickey's I would think that a restaurant carrying Mickey's name would serve better food. If your kids want to see the characters have them go to the designated character spots.

My wife, in-laws, daughter and I were at Chef Mickey's on the 25th for breakfast. We found the breakfast food to be ok, but not great. The main attraction there for breakfast is clearly the characters. Generally, I'd not go to a dinner buffet expecting too much. Is there a good one at Disney? We did do the Cinderella dinner at 1900 and the food was ok, far from great.

The few times we've been to Chef Mickeys, the food and service has been excellent. Sorry you had a bad time.

I wasn't crazy about Chef Mickey's dinner buffet, either. We had a really late reservation& we were exhausted and still wet from Splash Mountain, lol. so this might have been a contribution as to why we didn't enjoy it too much. Their breakfast is better.

Sorry that you had a bad experience but we were there May 25h for a 5:00 ADR and thought everything was great, food was fresh and washrooms were clean.

I have never been to Chef Mickey's but I was planning on going in January. Not that it is an excuse but could it be because of the late reservation that the restrooms were messy and the food was not that great? Maybe it was sitting out for a while? :confused3 Thanks for your review. This is good to know!

We've done Chef Mickey's numerous times for breakfast and dinner. We've always preferred their breakfast over their dinner. With the exception of Biergarten, we don't care for any of the Disney dinner buffets (although H&V is the ABSOLUTE worse).

I keep hearing that about H&V. What about it didn't you like?

I totally agree with you, the food at dinner is disgusting but breakfast is very very good

We've gone twice (we always try to give each place two tries in case of an "off" night). We wish we had stopped after one. The service was non-existent--took 20 minutes to get drinks; the food was lukewarm and medicore...and that's when there was food and you didn't wait 10 or 15 minutes for them to refill an empty station; the tables were never cleared of dishes, the tables were sticky as was the floor where our feet rested. It just was not a good situation--either time.

I always had good food and service at Chef Mickey's. Good thing about a buffett is that there are so many choices and if there is something I don't want, I'll get have more of the other stuff.

I read on another thread that a mom of a son with a peanut allergy was thrilled with Chef Mickey's. In an effort to serve the growing number of people with nut allergies Chef Mickey apparently is now nut free. She was happy that her son was finally able to eat off a buffet.

I have never eaten at CHef Mickey's, but we are planning breakfast for our upcoming trip. Hopefully our experience is more positive.

Yes, I was thinking that the late ADR may have been part of the problem with the food. However, for the cost of the buffet I expect a quality meal regardless of the time of my reservation.

Unfortunetly I found nothing at the buffet worth eating besides the cheesecake squares and the mickey domes. Dessert does not make a meal for me however.

I never really considered the peanut allergy issue. Not being well versed in allergies I didn't know that the person can't just avoid the peanuts on the buffet. If not having peanuts allows others to eat at the buffet then I am fine with it.

We have done breakfast here more than once and found it to be excellent.

Our last breakfast was over Christmas and sadly it will be our last. My boys have outgrown the characters and the food was not appetizing to say the least. The presentation, it was not hot, and even the coffee was warm. My boys ate the bacon and dessert for breakfast.

We have some great memories though:goodvibes

.

I don't think it was your late reservation. We were there May 4, and got seated around 6:45. The restaurant was absolutely filthy- so bad that as we were walking to our table my DH did not even want to eat there. The salad and desserts (except for the ice cream) were great. The rest of the food was disgusting- so bad that my MIL threw up within 2-3 hours of eating there. You got glue potatoes- we got runny potatoes. We also got ice cream soup instead of ice cream. I watched a kid drop the tongs for the chicken on the floor and then put them back in the food-- his horrified mother told the server and I'm not real sure they even changed out the chicken. If they did, I didn't see it. The characters and our server were great, but we won't be eating dinner there again, unless DD absolutely begs. I doubt she will because I don't think she ate a bite of her dinner. I was hoping maybe we just got a bad night since a lot of people seem to love it.

Honestly Chef Mickey's just doesn't appeal to me. For some reason it just seems like it would be very loud, noisy and messy because it is sooo busy. Also, we only do breakfast buffets as dinner buffets scare me!!!

Wow, so sorry you had a bad experience. We eat there nearly every trip & I have to say we've never been disappointed. I used the bathroom there once & it was quite clean as I would have expected.

I almost didn't book Cinderella's dinner based on what others were saying but once again I judged for myself & had the best time ever.

Chef Mickey's is alot about the character greetings & really the food isn't all that bad. If I was to compare it to Victoria & Alberts? Then I could agree & say the food was fair, with V&A being spectacular...you get what you pay for; Disney is pricey $$$$ It's gotta suck considering it's like $30.00 to eat there.

Again, sorry you had such an awful experience

When we went to Chef Mickey's, we felt we were crammed in like sardines!

The food wasn't that good, except for the dessert. Also, I REALLY don't like the napkin waving in the air. We were so close to the other tables that we had napkins in the back of our heads. Also, food flying around is just plain disgusting.

Maybe we'll have to give it a go for breakfast some day. No one in my family will go back for dinner!

Not to go off topic, however, Chef Mickey's has been just okay for me. The kids like it well enough, they don't any better. However, we went to the Crystal Palace, and they seated us in the furthest seat away from the buffet. By the time you got back to your seat, everything was just about cold. Our server was good and the character interaction was good too. Just disappointed in the food.
