I have just last sat...I had tried and tried to get an ADR I called multiple times a day for weeks to no avail...showed up a few in before 5pm and was seated about 10 min after 5 had a blast.. they are pretty good about getting you in if you show up at opening...hope that helps...have a great trip!
Back in the day this was possible most of the time. I would try because as the above poster said, they were able to and people do cancel, or just don't show up because they have other ressies(one of my pet peeves). I wouldn't tell little ones until you are sure about it though. Keep calling and trying for a cancellation.
we were there 8/31-9/6. Almost all of our ADR's were between 5 & 6 p.m.
What we saw was that there were empty tables at all the restaurants up until about 6:00 p.m.
So, arrive shortly before they start serving dinner (or around 5:00-5:15.) You may be able to get in at that time.
Or did you try for late breakfast-early lunch times? People have reported having some luck with that, and several have said it was great because they got to try both the breakfast and the lunch buffett, because it switched over while they were there.
I know that Chef Mickey's is one of the most requested restaurants, it is very hard to get ADR'S there. We live in FL so we do not plan our trips far in advance, sometimes I can't get ADR for the following month, anyway if you do walk in good luck and sending you pixie dust
I read on another thread that some diners are canceling their ADRs once they arrive at the resturant because of the construction so you maybe able to walk up.
Sometimes it helps to call around lunch time on the day you want to go to see if any ADRs have opened up.
I had CM reservations last friday, but ended up canceling at lunch b/c we were able to get into LTT before the Halloween party and didn't want to leave the park.
However, I would have back up plans and wouldn't count on walking up...especially if you're there during the "busy" season
We have done it and 2x we got in. When I called it was booked all week we were staying. But my son wanted to so we go as they open for dinner and both times we were sitted w/i 5 mins. It never hurts to ask.

You all have really encouraged us! We are going during a supposed "slow" time, but no Chef Mickey's availability breakfast, lunch, or dinner! We are staying at the Contemporary (mid Nov.) and are concerned about the contruction...but we LOVE the Contemporary. So I guess we'll look over the edge into Chef Mickey's and watch for a table to free up! We'll keep calling, thanks to all!

If you cannot get an ADR that means they are full and a walk-in does not hold much hope. I would continue to try and all for an ADR if eating their is that important to you.
