It used to be my favorite ( When it was located in DTD.) Now that it is at the contemporary it gets worse and worse with each trip. What's up ? Its filthy the food is garbage and the characters are way to busy.

Anyone else?

I KNOW I will not return to the character meal on my trip.:snooty:

We ate dinner at Chef Mickey's in August, 2009. It was, by far, the worst meal of our entire 10 day stay. The food was just blah. My son, who will eat even the cheap frozen pizzas, nibbled on the pizza from the kids' bar. The rest of us ate just enough to fill us up and that was mostly just bread and salad.

The restaurant itself was just plain dirty....food on the floor, food on the bar, etc. Our waitress took forever to refill our drinks and we had to flag her down to get our bill.

The characters stopped by our table and I had to snap pictures fast before they left. Granted, we didn't have small children (our youngest is 12) but, still, we wanted character interaction.

Our meal at Chef Mickey's was our first and, I hate to say it, but it will probably be our last.

We did breakfast last year and LOVED it. :lovestruc I'm planning on doing dinner this coming trip.

I think we can all say this about our old favorites. The quality and portion sizes continue to go down while the prices continue to go up (sigh). But, until WDW stops serving at capacity doing these practices it's unlikely to change. The bright side is they offer more than burgers, hot dogs, and pizza found at other theme parks.

We love Chef Mickey's breakfast - we're planning on trying dinner there as well, this year.

Agreed on all points. :guilty: We're going to give it a break for a few years and wait to see more good reviews. Our last visit was by far the worst buffet we'd ever had. Anywhere. And we don't expect much from a buffet.

We used to love Chef Mickey's--it was always a must do for us. We will still occasionally due breakfast, but I'd much prefer going to Cape May Cafe (and we always do Crystal Palace for breakfast). The last time we had dinner at Chef Mickey's was in 2004 when we took our oldest son for his high school graduation with his then girlfriend; the character interaction was great, but the food was awful. I wouldn't say it was as bad as Hollywood & Vine, but it definitely has declined in selection and taste over the years.

When was Chef Mickey's in Downtown Disney?

Someone else will know the year it moved but it was sometime between 1994 (when we first experienced it in DTD as a sit down and order place not a buffet) and 1997 I think. Not totally sure.

Yep, I agree. Our last time there the food wasn't so good and the characters seemed rushed. The only thing I liked was their outfits lol.

Maybe it was open in 2 locations but it has always been in the Contemporary. I stayed there back in '88 when I was 4. I remember it very clearly. We stayed in the Contemparary and had breakfast at CM's. I remember how the hotel smelled and every now and then when i smell something similar I think of that trip.

Maybe what I am thinking of was named something different and they changed it to CM's, but I really don't think that is the case.

Then again, I could be wrong.

I'm not sure if it had a different name, but it definitely had different characters. I remember when our boys were about 2 and 4 eating there and I remember Pluto, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and a few other characters -- such as the King from Robinhood and others being at the breakfast. This was back in 1990 or so and it was definitely at the Contemporary because we stayed at the CR and we did not need to make reservations...we just walked right into breakfast.

I don't know. the internet wasn't big back then so all I knew was what I read in books for our first trip. Chef Mickey's was a restaurant at DTD where you actually ordered off a menu. I've seen reference to it off and on throughout the years here on DIS about when it "moved". So you got me. I just know it was in DTD for a while and wasn't buffet. I'll see if I can read up.

Yes! Robin Hood and Prince John were there! My parents have a picture of Robin Hood feeding me because I didn't want to eat what was on my plate!

Yes, and I have one of him giving my son a stern look because he threw cereal at his brother! :rotfl:

Ah ha. I found this "Dec 22: This day in history: Chef Mickey's opens at Disney's Contemporary Resort - 1995" on the Disney Park's Twitter page. So I don't know what was in the CR but it wasn't officially Chef M's.

*** And it said it moved to the CR in 1995 on AllEars as well. Restaurants seem to swap out spaces all the time.

July
The Chef Mickey's restaurant opens at the Disney Village Marketplace at Walt Disney World. Former name was The Village Restaurant. [228.87] [501.587]

I wish I could find what was at the CR prior to Chef Mickey's because I know there was something there.
