Not sure if this is the best board to post this question. But we would like to do breakfast at Chef Mickeys and then take the Monorail to MK. Would it be possible to make rope drop if we did a 7:30 or 8:00 breakfast? Or would that be pushing it? Would we still get there early enough or do you think we would get bogged down at the turnstiles? Thanks in advance!!

I'm assuming a park opening at 9:00.

Chef Mickey's is an expensive breakfast buffet so you don't want to rush. Plan on an hour there. Then you need to get on the monorail (bag check there) and, I can't remember, maybe another bag check? But I think you'd not make it with an 8AM. Possibly 7:30 but remember that transportation will be crowded. If it's really important to make rope drop, I'd not do the breakfast. Again, why rush through a pricey meal?

I definitely agree with the recommendations to walk. You would be planning a minimum of 20 minutes CR-MK on the monorail that time of the morning. If you walk you *should* make it with a 7:30 res. The big unknown with the breakfast is the characters. If you wait to see all the characters it could take 30 minutes for them to cycle through or it could take 90 minutes. It depends on where you end up seated in the restaurant and where they are in the rotation. We have had both experiences.

The other thing to watch is the park hours. Often MK changes to an 8am opening.

Agree w the folks saying walk. It is just across the street, so much quicker than the monorail loop

Totally depends on how fast the characters move around the restaurant. And, yes, walk!

Try to get the 7:30, you won't be as rushed. At that time of day (restaurant just opening), you will be seated in the first section they fill up and see all the characters before the rest of the tables get filled. An opening time ADR will almost always be at least 15 - 20 minutes faster than other times. You will most likely see all characters in your first 1/2 hour and the rest of the time will just be eating at your leisure. For us 45 minutes is usually more than enough, but even if you take an hour and then walk to MK, you will get the shorter security line on the walking path and be at the gate by 8:45.

If you had the 7am, it would be doable without any rushing. We've had that ADR slot and even made it to Epcot for rope drop.

I would decide which is more important, Chef Mickey or RD. Not likely that you can do both and enjoy the restaurant.
Agree with PP that it is an expensive meal to rush through. You want the time with the characters.
As mentioned, hours for MK change and it could open at 8.
Also agree with walk to MK. Its a short walk and go through a not very crowded security area.

Thanks everyone for the advice! The only reason we would take the monorail is because I'm sure my almost 3 year old son will be enthralled. Walking certainly makes more sense...maybe we'll have to find another time to ride the monorail, or make an earlier reservation.
