So this is what is going on,

We are coming to WDW on Thursday, Sept 29 for a fast 3 night trip to surprise my daughter for her 11th birthday. I have saved and planned for this. The first day that dining reservations were opened up I tried to get lunch/ dinner at Chef Mickey ( which is her fav place to eat), I could not get a reservation. I have been trying almost everyday since then and nothing. I did book Rainforest Cafe in DD as a fill in. I was wondering what would be the possibility that we could walk up and get into Chef Mickey for a table for 3?

There is no way I would let this ruin my trip, but so wish we could get in...

Is it possible? yes, but there are no guarantees. I would go early... and ask at the desk. since it is free dining, it might be a little more difficult.
I went in May 2010 and asked at the desk. I was told it would be 90 minutes, but that was okay. CM is my sons favorite place and it was his bday. We were paged in under 40 minutes.

good luck!

I book my disney trips usually 3 months out, so i always miss the 180 day window to book ADRs. But I always seem to get the ADRs i want because im very anal with checking online multiple times an hour. By doing this, checking constantly, i am usually (98% of the time) able to get what i want. Even a week before my trip i snagged a really hard to get ADR! So dont give up, keep trying. But if all else fails, definitely walk up and ask....mention its her bday!

You can also check with the concierge of your hotel to see if there are openings when you arrive. That is, if you are staying at a Disney resort.

It's my understanding that this is a low crowd time of year. On our last trip, in February of last year, we were able to walk up and get seated as a party of 2 adults and 1 child. They kind of gave me a look and "oh, wow we're not sure," but then came back with "it might be a 30 minute wait." We said okay, and ended up waiting about 10 minutes. It's always worthwhile to ask, and I recommend getting there when dinner service begins around 5. But, that depends on how your daughter would handle going there and not being able to get in. You have to make that call, and you'd have to have her prepared for disappointment. That said, keep checking! You never know what might pop up because of cancellations.
