(But then again, my tiny town had a bathtub race every year, so I can't knock somebody else's silly fun.)

It's funny. They know how stupid they are for even attempting it, and surprisingly few actually get seriously injured! (My friend was an attending paramedic for several years at this event and I was amazed how few people were more than a cut/bruise!!)

I know someone who participated and they were pretty excited to win a big wheel of cheese. He said it was worth a few hundred bucks. So I guess that's the draw. I don't understand meat raffles either but they're pretty popular and you don't risk breaking your neck.
