Cheers to Friendship A ladies weekend Oct. 12 PTR NEW only 2 days till Disney

Since some of you are on facebook with us, and the costumes have already been guessed there, I'll give one last clue here before we post more details.

Previous clues...
1 - Heidi & I purchased the first parts of our costumes when we got together a couple weekends ago... black shorts.

2 - Our costumes are not all the same.

3 - The costumes are Disney themed.

4 - Heidi & I will match, but Julie will be something different.

5 - Julie will be human, Heidi & I will not.

New clue:
Woof! Woof!

Planning for Disney with one hand/arm

Here's the story:
Sunday 1st July
We had been home from church maybe 10 minutes, when the skies started getting dark and within 30 minutes our power went out, the wind whipped up to almost 90 mph outside with Matt calling for all of us to get away from the windows and into the basement! Trees were down all around our house including on top of it...

After surveying the damage from this freak storm, some family back - up arrived to help us with the clean up and such. When I was picking up debri on our deck, I felt my feet begin to slip out from under me and down I fell...

The outcome: a compound fracture of my right wrist, and loss of motion from the elbow down. And of course I'm right handed...

As of 20 days later I have had surgery to repair the massive damage of crushed and fragmented bone. I have new titanium body parts of a plate and almost a dozen pins...
And I have months of hand therapy ahead of me...

So how does one continue to plan and organize details of their upcoming trip when she can't write and all her plans are written out in her own custom planning sheets? Including the added difficulty of needing to keep my arm elevated basically 24/7 so sitting at a computer = discomfort!

Pack up the pencil, pens, and highlighters and paper...and bring out my iPad!

I have searched, tested, and modified several different apps to meet my needs:

Overall planning/itinerary-

The first app I tried was called Tripit which really didn't fit my needs, and not to user friendly IMHO I kept searching and found the app Trip Organizer. This one was a bit easier for me to add in my info and manipulate, but still wasn't quite right for all my needs. One positive I'm able to keep all our tour cards and itinerary map saved in this organizer.

Lists for packing, to-do's, and purchases needed-

This one turned out to be an easier find. The app I'm using is called Trip Ckecklist. I like how I can easily modify the lists, make notes for individual items. So I have my packing list, to buy, and to do lists all on this app.

Reminder notes-

This was another easy one. I'm using the organizational app Sticky Notes. I have such notes as IOU Amy $ for room, buy my MNSsHp ticket, work on budget, etc as needed.

Budget for total trip and dinning-

This took sometime as my first searches under budget apps would not work for a trip budget, especially the way I like to write it out. I finally found a vacation app (which I did buy) called My Vacation Planner. This app is so simple like written out worksheets. Starting filling in my info on this one...so far so good!

Spreadsheet to track my dinning choices-

This is still a work in progress as the first app was no good. Now I have two apps I'm looking at: spreadsheet and Calc lite

It's an interesting process figuring out a new way to plan Disney but it is also enjoyable!
Please stay tuned for more left hand antics!
Thanks for reading,
Julie (Scrappie)

Note: since first one finger typing this out on my iPad, to have Amy post for me, I have made some improvements in my finger use and grip of the right hand. My wrist is still immobile though. Hoping to try and get back on the regular computer soon and update my planning sheets to print out.

Yikes!
Julie, I'm coming out of posting hibernation here to say I hope your hand/arm heals quickly and well. Also how scary about the storm! I hope your family and friends are all ok too, and not too much damage was done.
Glad you found an app to your liking!

OMG Julie - that is really terrible and I can totally see how that can happen. In fact, it just happened to a friend of mine at work. She slipped on the floor outside of our office.

I remember that crazy storm, but we got it here on the East Coast in the middle of the night and it knocked out power everywhere.

Julie, I hope you have a fast recovery. Using an iPad to help you plan is such a great idea. I'm going to try those apps.

*Bump*

Anything new??

Okay, I'm taking a wild guess at the Halloween costumes....

Nah. I've got nothin'.

Hope you're wrist is healing well, Julie! pixiedust:

Kathy

Thank you all for the well wishes...

Wrist is healing, gaining movement back in fingers and very limited movement of the wrist but it's going along well. Can drive now, button pants, eat w/ my right hand among other YAY I'm human moments...seems most likely I will still be in the brace for the trip, but we'll deal w/ that then...

I changed my flight! :hyper:

So because I was most annoyed by AirTran of changing flight to two hours later on our departure day and missing out on a second of fun w/ the gals.*

I called AirTran and had them change my flight to Tuesday night and will be arriving in Orlando that night, I booked a hotel room near the airport and will take the free shuttle there and then back to airport in morning to meet up w/ the ladies to take the DME together to the Boardwalk!

To offset the cost of my hotel room on Tuesday night I plan to use a carry-on now instead of cking a bag. Found some great packing tutorials on Pinterest, can't wait till 30 days and start the packing...cause of course on my to-do list I have test run of packing bag, plus my 1-quart size bag :goodvibes :rotfl:

We (Heidi, Amy and I) have been busy planning some more of the finer details, like tour plans, food choices for CS and F&W

Plus we purchased our MNSSHP tickets for the 11th and Heidi got us our 3DDessert party tickets as well!

Can't believe soon we will be up to 50 days to go...yeah super excited!

J-

Glad to hear your wrist is doing better, I hope it continues to improve quickly for you.
Sounds like you guys are getting things done! And hooray for MNSSHP tickets!

That is great news on your wrist and yay for a full day by flying in the night before. Very cool on all the tickets, it makes it seem so much closer. We haven't got our party tix yet which is good as I think we are changing dates but did book 2 culinary seminars and tightened up our ADRs so starting to get excited over here too!

Thanks ladies appreciate it! Just found the new DIS app so maybe I will be able to keep up on the Dis again :-)

I'm glad to hear your wrist is feeling better! Hopefully it is back to normal soon!!

Yay for changing your flight to get in earlier! :cool1:

You all know we are planning to attend MNSSHP on Thursday, 10/11/12 (fun date, right?).

She’s going to look great!!

Heidi and I will be wearing black shorts and white t-shirts, which we’ll be painting with black spots. (We hope to get together in September to paint the shirts at the same time.)
We have Dalmatian ears & tails, modeled here by Danica:

52 days to go, we are working on a fun way to countdown the last 30 days. We'll take turns posting a short update every day sharing parts of our day to day Disney lives. :thumbsup2 We also hope to get our park touring plans posted between now & then... So stay tuned for frequent updates!!

Okay, I know that lol (laugh-out-loud) is a bit over-used but, DANG! I really did lol at those pix!! :lmao:

All three of you are going to look amazing! What fun!

Kathy

p.s. I like the spotted shoes best, Julie!

I'm getting really excited for the party!

This weekend I ordered more professional make-up for the puppies and colored hair spray for Cruella.

And seeing the picture of the ribbon reminds me that I got the collar color (blue) for Penny but not Rolly. Should we have matching collars or should I get the red ribbon too?

Ha! I cannot wait to see you all together with your finished costumes, everything looks great! I like the spotted shoes better too, those red ones look like fun but the green trim will be much more complimentary to green eye shadow. ;)

The Dalmation ears are a riot. Kudos to you all for wearing the makeup... I'd likely have it streaky and half gone in no time.

Ok now I really feel like I need to consider a costume, you guys are going to look GREAT! I absolutely love it.

Totally up to you Heidi! Thanks for getting all of the supplies!

Not sure which shoes Julie ended up with... but I think it's the crocs. I believe she had them before she even saw the other ones. :confused3

Ok now I really feel like I need to consider a costume, you guys are going to look GREAT! I absolutely love it.

You should definitely dress up... at least a little bit!

We're down to 45 days to go!!! :cool1:

As promised, I want to share more details about our plans.

On day one (Wed 10/10), Heidi & I will arrive at MCO around 10am where Julie will be waiting for us. (She changed her flight to arrive the night before & will stay at a hotel near the airport.) We'll all catch our ME bus together & before long we'll be checking in at BWV! Hopefully our room will be ready, but if not, we'll head right out to Epcot via the International Gateway... which is my favorite part of staying at the Boardwalk!

Here is the touring card Heidi put together for our time at Epcot.

After a few hours exploring the Epcot F&W booths for lunch, we'll head over to MK.

I'm sure we'll be pooped so we'll be anxious to get back to our villa at a reasonable time.

Up later this week... Our Day 2 plans!

Busy, full, fun and organized first day!!!!!!!!!

I think mine looks something like, DME to resort, go to dinner. :rotfl: If I am really lucky with DME I might get a little bit of park time before dinner. I really hope so but at best it's probably 30-60 minutes. Everything will be closed by the time we are done with dinner. A little bummed about how early the parks are closing during my dates.

Love the touring card, I do need to get my head around the kiosks and what I want to do.
