So I just realized that the first two weeks of Feb are filled with Cheerleading....ugh

Has anyone ever been during this time? Is it really bad, crowded, alot of things shut off from other guests?

I plan to stay at a value, is this going to be an issue?

TIA

Two of our 3 trips have been during cheer/dance competitions. The only attraction we noticed closed because of it was Indiana Jones (that's where they held the competition).

Other than that, it didn't seem to affect anything else for us.

Can't comment on the resort part - we were at POFQ and POR and didn't notice any large groups of dancers/cheerleaders.

I wonder if Guest relations can tell me how busy the resort is with sports groups? Or if I get there and its obnoxious if I can move resorts?

We were there one year at the same time as the Cheerleaders. Other than DHS we never noticed them in the parks (much). What I mean is, you would see them (they were kind of hard to overlook) but they didn't overwhelm any of the attractions the way the huge tour groups can.

The worst impact was at the resort. We unfortunately chose to stay at AS Sports that year, not knowing about the cheerleaders (this was in my pre Dis days). It was horrible. If you can google the cheerleading association and find out where they are staying, I would strongly recommend that you choose a resort where they won't be.

We were planning on ASMo, but now maybe not...
Possibly POP or POFQ?

Port Orleans is lovely or you can try the new Art of Animation. Usually the cheer squads are at All Stars. Since AoA is new and is mostly family suites, you are probably safe there.

I don't know about the rest of the value resorts but do avoid Sports! Other than that you'll see them here/ there in the parks but they're not all that loud or anything (in our experience but maybe we just lucked out..)

Did I mention AVOID AS Sports? Yeah - worth mentioning twice!!

Was def planning on avoiding ASsp no matter what, I just do not enjoy the themeing. So I am hoping that in the resort I stay at I can avoid them.

It doesnt seem like they are a problem in the parks, so I do not need to switch my dates, but I just gotta make sure I pick my resort wisely. I wonder will I be allowed to switch resorts if I have problems...

It seems like there is negativity towards cheerleaders on this thread, which I don't really get...but...

If you want to avoid them, don't stay at All-Star Sports. From what I understand from others who have been there the same time as them, they don't impact the parks noticeably.

We were there during the dance competition, staying at CBR, at some of the dance teams were staying there LO.

Because I was a cheerleader and I know how loud we can get, not exactly negativity. When I stay on vacation I want to be able to get at least some sleep....

You cannot predict anything, I agree better to ask on resort board, maybe they know but I would just go with what I like and take my chances.

We were there a few years back and the parks were not at all crowded. We were at ASMo but I think we ended up eating at ASMu a lot because it was closer to our room actually. I don't have a problem with cheerleaders at all, but they would overwhelm the dining area and you'd have a really long wait, IIRC. Just too many people going to eat at once. They were not in the Music dining place.

In 2009 we were there with cheer/dance groups, it was fine until the competition was over and the parks seemed to be full a couple of days. I still have nightmares of "WEST SIDE GATORS!" **clap clap clapclapclap** all throughout test track line, waiting area, ride boarding... during the ride... after....

It seemed no matter what park cheer groups were everywhere. the chaos seemed to fizzle out within a couple of days though as I guess they went home. all in all it wasn't bad except for the two days but those two days were enough to know I'll never have my daughter in cheer. :lmao:

Yea, I will not let me daughter be in cheer either. After my experiences no thank you.

Thank you all for the advice, I think I will just try to book POP and hope for the best :goodvibes

We were at Disney in Feb about two years ago. On one of our last days we were walking through Epcot - only to hear cheers - looked over and there were a bunch of girls with cheerleader tees. I told hubby that this was one time I was glad that we were going home the next day.
We have also stayed at POP where they had the overflow cheerleaders/dance teams. POP seemed to put the cheerleaders/dance teams at one end of the resort so it wasn't bad.

I've seen them many times at our value resorts, (I"ve never stayed at ASsport) and there has never been a problem, except at breakfast in the food courts. Actually, it's not even a problem, just really busy. Allow yourself a little extra time, and you should be fine. I always found them polite, but with a little extra energy. It never impacted the busses I was on, or my experiences at the parks. Now and again, they would cheer, but it was never excessive, or too loud. And it would only last about 3 minutes. I didn't mind them at all, and actually enjoyed their vigor and joi de vie.

Anytime you get a large group of teenagers together with very little to no supervison, they are going to be loud and obnoxious. Alot of people don't want to deal with them on vacation. The Feb groups will not be as bad as the Pop Warner kids or the Brazillian tour groups, but will be noticeable at the resorts they are staying at and as groups are eliminated you may notice them in the parks with alot of loud cheering and line cutting. Just go the other way.

I didn't know Pop ever allowed the big groups to stay there.:scared: I thought they were always at the All Stars and one of the moderates. This past Nov/Dec I was with a group of cheerleaders that were there for the taping of the Christmas parade. My first thought was they were Pop Warner, even though I had read here on the DIS that the Pop Warner kids were going to be at the All Stars and CBR and these cheerleaders looked older. One of the parents said they were just there for the taping of the Christmas parade and had nothing to do with Pop Warner. They were a mob in the morning at the food court and were a little loud cheering out in front of one of the Cabana buildings one morning, but for the most part were well behaved.
