It totally depends to me.

The type of cheerleading that airs on ESPN and such and involves choreography and such I consider a sport.

However, to me, standing on the sidelines waving around a pom-pom and spelling words doesn't constitute a sport.
::yes::

I do think that competitive cheerleading is a sport just as I think competitive gymnastics and competitive dance is a sport...
But I dont think sideline Cheerleading is a sport
At my school seriously all that the cheerleaders do is stand on the side go, GO EAGLES, and wave there poms, poms, with there stupid little cheers
No one at my school likes the cheerleaders except thereselves...
Also the sideline Cheerleaders at my school are dumber than sticks...
One of the girls didnt know that France was a country...
And shes in French...

i think sideline cheering is an activity
not a sport
cause your not competing or anything

competitive cheering deffiently

Sideline cheering it depends. The team i cheered on we pretty much were throwing basket tosses and continuously stunting where as my current schools team they just wave pompons.

The injurys from cheerleading ranked it at one point in the top 5 most dangerous sports. I believe it was right under hockey and rugby.

it requires just as much if not more athletic ability than baseball which is considered a sport so I'd say yes....

Im a gymnast, so I've seen competetive cheerleading before. Besides, they make lots of movies about it. Of course its a sport! Now, side line cheerleading isn't. That's mostly support for teams, and they dont practice very much (that I know of) and its more of a small hobby. Stand there and look pretty lol.

*runs in and shouts*
Save the cheerleader save the world!

haha sorry I couldn't resist.
I think if it involves actually hard moves and such it's a sport. If it's just pom pom waving kind, not so much.

yes. i think dance is a sport, and gymnastics is a sport. from what i've seen, cheereading looks like a cross between the two. it looks like it would be very physically demanding. so yeah

I think that cheerleading is a sport. And if we're going to qualify cheerleading as a sport, you've got to make marching band a sport as well. They fit the same categories: both compete against other schools, both are physically demanding (yes marching band is very physical), and they both are governed by rules. It all comes down to your personal definition of a sport.

Marching band's not a sport.. More like a preforming art.

I have been a cheerleader before and I also play softball, volleyball, and soccer. To me its not a sport. Comparing it to the othe sports I play its not a exhauting and is in a different category from sports. Its a form of entertainment to me

Nope. I don't think so. If cheerleaders weren't so full of themselves, maybe I'd change my mind. But most of them are total ******* so its hard for me to think of it as a sport.

Yes, football players can act the same way, but its different when they are playing down on the field. The cheerleaders bring it where ever they go.

Just do gymnastics!

Couldn't be more sterotypical.

ok, is dance a sport, how about stagework

we do a hell of a better workout than the football team

Iv'e done both
some of us sprint faster than 75% of the track team
the main actor this musical is the fastest guy in our school, save marque who won't join any team

Performing arts (cheerleading included) are the #1 sport
