I heard that there will be a cheerleading competition during the week of Jan. 21, 2008 within all the parks. I also heard that they will be staying in the value resorts. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, do you know which hotels they will be using during their stay? This will be my second time and I don't want to be in a crowded resort with a bunch of teenage girls.

Any help will be greatly apprecitated.

Thanks,
Jenn Marceron

Yeap, the competition is the 18th through the 20th. And being that MLK Holiday is on the 21st, they'll probably be there then too.

As far as where they'll be mostly, stay away from the values and you'll be fine. Their impact on the Parks are minimal at best. :thumbsup2

Do you know if they will be staying through the week of the Monday, Jan. 21st? Or should I call a few of those hotels and find out. As of right now my family and I will be arriving to Disney Tuesday, Jan. 22nd so this might not be a problem unless the girls stay all week.

Thanks for your help :)

They usually don't, just the weekend and poof, they're gone. However, I would still call to try and find out for sure because that long weekend may entice some.

Good Luck :)

Cheerleaders generally stay in the All Star Resorts when they are there for competitions, provided they have been offered a package deal, which they usually have. But you will have stray groups who make their own travel arrangements and stay other places. When my sis went for this competition a few years ago, they didn't take the package so they could stay at the CBR instead.

Thanks for the info. This should make it easier to plan where we will be staying.

Avoid staying with these groups at all costs.

I had heard about these groups (cheerleaders, sports teams, etc.) but thought "how bad could it be to stay at the same resort?" Well, unforuntately, I found out in April!

My 10 yr old daughter really wanted to stay at All Star Sports. So, being new to the Dis budget group we agreed, but only if we could book 2 preferred room locations (oldest has a birth defect with his left foot so we wanted a short walk for him). All worked out, we booked the two preferred rooms and paid in full.

We drove down to Disney in April. We arrived a day early so we stayed at a hotel in DTD so we could check into Sports bright and early the next day. We arrived about 7:30 a.m. (we weren't looking to actually get a room, we just wanted to check in to make sure we got our preferred room and hit the parks; luggage stayed in van). When we walked into the lobby, there must have been 1,000 kids there with their luggage in tow. Thankfully we found out they were leaving! Little did we know, our troubles were just beginning....

The lady checking us in put us in a non-preferred room. I told her we booked and paid for a preferred rooms. She said there were none available due to more groups checking in and they would refund the preferred rate. After literally 90 minutes at check-in with the manager, etc. they could do nothing for us. I was in tears but decided to make the best of it. We were placed in the basketball section.

When it was time for bed, we realized how many kids were there. They were so loud! They were throwing landscaping rocks at each other, hitting guest windows, etc. Security responded several times and usually by 1:30 a.m. we were able to get to sleep. It was awful. I don't think they had chaperones and if they did, they weren't around. After night 3, we decided to check out early and go back to the DTD hotel. We couldn't take it anymore. When we went to check out, there were other people also checking out complaining about the lack of supervision for these kids. One older man was actually screaming to the manager telling him to point out the chaperone as he wanted to to speak with him/her directly.

Anyway, sorry this is long...just wanted to advise staying away from the All Stars when teenagers are there. From what I understand, they stay mainly at All Stars (as the hotels are near each other) and not POP.

I will be taking this all into consideration. Thank you everyone for your help :)

I really wish they would not do the cheerleader thing. We were there in Dec. of 06 and boy could you tell the difference! The CM who made our initial res. said they would not have any impact on our park days, because we flew in on Sun and did park days M-Fr. Well,, they were everywhere all week! I think she got confused because they didn't leave until the same day we did.

They also took up lots of room at the rest. I mean, every group we saw at the places we ate, had 10-20 people. Several of the chaperones hadn't made ressies & were giving the CM's a hard time because they couldn't all sit together.

This was one reason we decided to do Jan 08 instead of Christmas this year. Now I am back to square 1 . I don't know what to do!!

Hopefully you won't have an issue if the girls only stay through Monday the 21st. b/c they will have to get back to school.

Does anyone think this is correct? Or will the girls stay all week and miss valuable school!!

We were there last January at BWI and there was a stray group there. We had no problems at the BWI or at the parks. We enjoyed this time of year last year that we are going again in '08! :wizard:

From what I read this is a College Cheerleading championship, so they should be college age, not high school, if that matters at all.
