cheerleaders?

On the trip report board a lot of people mention large groups of cheerleaders.When do groups of cheerleaders go there and why?

The Wild World of Sports hosts some cheerleading competions some times. They also use to be at MGM where the Indiana Jones show is. They use to use the stage and seating. So for the cheerleaders to be able to afford to go they normally stay at the all star resorts. There was a time when they stayed at POR.

Sometimes the events are listed somewhere on a site as far as when they are at Disney.

We avoid them at all costs. No offense to those of you who think your little girls are wonderful, but the ones we have run into have been loud and rude and think they own the place. WE actually had to move one time becaue they decided to have a group of them outside in the court yard doing cheers all night long. It was not a pleasant time.

The cheerleaders are ususally there in Dec usually the 2nd full week it goes along with the Pop Warner Football Championships that are held at Wide World of SPorts. Lots of KIds at the All Stars that week

I found out that the Pop warner will be there December 4-9th of this year, so I changed my ressies. I had planned to go the 3rd to the 11th, but changed it because of this.

The cheerleaders and/or dance teams were out in force when we were there in early February. I would avoid them in the future. As usual, everything was at its worst Fri/Sat/Sun.

Ah, one of our favorite WDW topics -- cheerleaders. Dates seemed to shift for '05. Our best advice: Ask the CM when you call in for ressies. Avoid dates these groups are there: Pop Warner footballers, cheerleaders, dancers. Of the three groups, dancers are the easiest to get along with. Remember, these groups tend to put a lot of youngsters in each room. For the most part these youngsters are not very well behaved and not well supervised. WDW seems to have a "hands-off" policy with regard to these groups.

Diane....I agree 100% about the loud cheerleaders. There have been a few times where these *cheerleaders* were practicing their cheers at all hours of the night...running and screaming down the halls. It was a nightmare but thankfully it wasn't at WDW it was on another vacation. Please no cheerleaders in May when we are there!!

Honestly, I wouldn't change my travel dates because of the cheerleaders. We've been there twice during Pop Warner, and as long as you can stay at a resort where they are not, their impact on your vacation will in all likelihood be minimal. The people who have the most problems with the cheerleaders are those who have stayed at the same resorts. We barely noticed the cheerleaders in the parks, as they are otherwise occupied most of the time. I think that MGM is often closed early on the Friday night of that week for their exclusive use, but otherwise we hardly knew they were there. It's a perfect time of year to visit WDW, so as long as you can be sure you are staying elsewhere, I doubt it would be an issue.

I was there in Feb and thought they were all well manored. I didn't see any of them cheering on the bus, or at the parks or anything like that.

The Cheerleaders also stay at CBR. They were there when we went in February.
They really didn't bother us at all, in fact, we had fun pointing out the different "cheer Moms" and comparing them....... some look like "regular" moms but some of them are trying to look like their teenage daughters by wearing clothes that would be found in stores that teens shop at such as "shorty" tops and low-rise flares that show their belly-buttons (complete with belly rings), they had tanning salon tans, etc....
It was pretty funny.

In my opinion, there is only one good way to avoid large groups of any kind, cheerleaders, tour groups, etc. at your resort. Stay at a Deluxe. We have never had any large group "issues" because they do not stay at the more expensive resorts. I know that it costs more, but here again, you're guaranteed not to be kept awake at night by kids practicing their routines in the courtyard. If it's truly a thorn in your side, you just might have to cowboy up and spend the extra money. The reality of the situation is the large groups are going to stay in the value/moderates, period. If fact, you really don't have any recourse, because Walt Disney World courts these groups and gives them all kinds of incentives to bring their Football Championships or Cheerleading competitions to WDW.

We're planning on doing just that in December. Unfortunately, my husband will have a harder time getting off work later in December, so we'll be there Pop Warner week.

So I assume that if you stay at a deluxe resort, you avoid having all the little cheerleaders at your resort, but are they at the parks? I would hope they are at the competition during the day, but have any of your run into problems with loads of cheerleaders at the parks?

we make a trip to wdw in early February and usually encounter groups of cheerleaders at some point. We tend to stay at deluxe resorts and have never had "cheerleader issues" (in fact have never seen them at the resorts). I have seen them walking around the parks, in fairly large and certainly exuberant groups, but have never been annoyed by them or their behavior.

jovidan- We are planning a trip to the All Star Movies for Jan '06. What dates were you there in '04. Would like to avoid them if possible.
