Cheerfully child-free. Anyone else?

I'm cooking dinner for my Mom and Dad for Mother's Day.. I hate going
out to restaurants for Holidays. I love to cook, and it's just DH and I + our dogs. Will be very peaceful, with nice white wine. Much nicer than a loud crowded restaurant. ick

DH and I will be driving home from WDW on Mother's Day. :goodvibes Sometimes we make a quick trip to the parks on the day we leave, and other times I drag DH to the Millenium Mall for some good ol' retail therapy!:thumbsup2

I am working till 05:00am on Mothers Day. I will be sleeping until 1:00pm. That is probably it for me. DH and I would normally go out for dinner on Sunday but not this one. Every single restaurant will be packed.

Night shift- yow! What kind of work do you do?

I am an IT supervisor for Data Center Operations. We run 24-7. I work Wed-Thurs-Fri nights 5:00pm to 5:00am. We then work every other Saturday night too. This just happens to one of mine.

I would much rather that people be honest from the get go about not wanting children. Nothing wrong with that. Parenting is certainly not very everyone and there certainly are a lot of parents who should not be parents!

I've heard stuff like that too. How about parents keep their damn kids away from the dogs if it's such a "danger"? Oh wait..that would mean that the parents would actually have to DO SOMETHING...silly me!

WOW! That's pretty harsh.

So what are all you childfree people doing on Mothers Day (or NonMothers day)?

I am going to Vegas with my sister and my mother! Can't wait! I feel very lucky to have the freedom and means to travel! I am also very grateful that I have an awesome boyfriend who is giving my mother one of the best Mother's Day presents ever: a plane ticket to Vegas! She has never been anywhere major like Vegas, and it took him buying her a ticket to get her to agree to go! I can't wait to see her face!

Where are you staying?

Where are you staying?

We are staying at Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon (formerly Barbary Coast). It is an older property, but is rated #10 on TripAdvisor. It is an excellent location, so as long as the place is clean, we will be laughin'.

Oh what a beautiful weekend! :cool1:

Last night I went to 20th high school reunion, it was a blast!

It made me feel great, because several people told me that I look great and look the same !:cloud9:

Most of the women looked good. I thought it was funny that some of the men are bald now- especially the ones who had the long "80's metal band" hair in high school! :rotfl:

After hearing that Doug and Carrie (from The King of Queens) ended the series by adopting from China AND finding out she's pregnant I was wondering: Are there ANY TV couples w/out kids? I remember how I stopped watching Mad About You once she got pregnant...and Will & Grace annoyed me with the whole baby thing too.

If any of you watch How I Met YOur MOther, I am so glad they haven't had Robin "cave in."

Yes!!!

I was actually really disappointed with King of Queens... I mean, I was happy for them (I think - provided they were happy - I wasn't really sure if it ended on a positive note or what! :rotfl: ), but sad that the series felt it was necessary to give them a baby. It could have easily ended with them being child-free and been fine! :confused3 Weird.

I was SO thankful HIMYM didn't make Robin pregnant... :thumbsup2 It always feel like tv shows rely too heavily on making characters pregnant to move storylines alone... it's perfectly valid for a female character to NOT be pregnant! :rotfl2:

Hi, there! Well, I'm just hoping they keep Robin childfree...I don't want to hear at the end "And Aunt Robin did end up having your cousins Madison and Hugo and realized what she was missing" or something like that.

King of Queens- I think that show jumped the shark awhile ago, but I am not sure when.
I didn't think the end was realistic. I mean, as she's adopting the Chinese baby, she finds out she's pregnant on the same day? Come on!

They hardly ever have a CF woman character unless she's a nacisstic, corporate ladder obssessed, materialistic (w)itch. They never have a regular, nice CF character.
I've never really watched HIMYM, but I may check it out now!

Going way back, I was a fan of 3rd Rock From the Sun. Jane Curtian's character said she could not have children. John Lithgow's character then gets all sympathetic and says, "Oh I'm sooo sorry. How come you are not able to have them?" She gives him an odd look and says point blank:

"Because....I hate children". :rotfl:

Goofygirl, I had stopped watching a while ago too...I felt it was getting repetitve.

I love love LOVE King of Queens but as soon as they found out they were going off this season they started writing toward the end and it wasn't nearly as good or funny. I just KNEW what they were going to do and I was really mad about it. NOT at all in keeping with the characters over the years (though the coda was pretty darn funny).

I wrote a letter to the network and the show producers several years ago after a storyline in which they tried to get pregnant and she had a very early miscarriage. The letter basically said hey - here's your shot to be the first sitcom on tv about a childfree couple. I laid out all the facts about the growth of childfree households, how they typically have more disposable income and are better educated (all things they want in a tv audience), and how it would be a great chance for them to be tv pioneers.

For a while I thought they'd heard it as things went back to the old personalities. They even had an episode where Doug babysits a baby for a few days and Carrie wants nothing to do with it! And then as soon as the series is ending, they fall back on the old baby cliche. I like to think it was more out of laziness and a lack of creativity, but I'm not happy with it.

Why couldn't they have had Doug and Carrie move into Manhattan to pursue her dream, Spence & Danny buy their house and move in as roomates, and Arthur get married and be happy (or do what they did and have him move in with Spence & Danny)? That would've been more in keeping with the characters, yet starting them all on a new phase of their lives.

I tell ya, when I'm in charge of TV this crap will NOT happen!! :)

Agree with you, WDWGuru!

off topic: So my mom and I went out to a park to picnic on Sunday for Mothers' Day because it was so nice out. The park (Core Creek Park, Langhorne, PA area) was very busy with people. It was nice. The park has a big lake where people boat and fish. My mom and I share the same morbid sense of humor, and she asked, "Do you think there's any bodies in the lake?" and I said, "Nothing would surprise me."

Well don't you know, the very next day on Monday the 14, a fisherman found a car in the lake, and the car had a dead body in it? :scared1: I could not believe that they found a body the next day after we were there! (and NO, we didn't do it!)
Bet you can't beat that Mothers' Day story! LOL
