But that is funny you ask what us CF people are doing this weekend and I am spending the one day with kids planning for Disney! :rotfl2:

I may be thrown off the thread for this! :rotfl:

Naaah. That is the joy of other people's kids. Kinda like why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

This weekend, these child-free Disers are having photographs made with our dog for Christmas cards! We'll probably catch some flack for that like the dog is our substitute child. Bring in on! ;)

We ride everything - well, DH refuses to even think about the Country Bear Jamboree - and love Fantasyland. Peter Pan is our favorite.

We like the Crystal Palace because it's fun to meet the characters, even as an adult, and the food there is great. Get a late dinner ADR and while it may be noisy and chaotic when you're seated, by the end there are very few kids and you can spend oodles of time getting pics with multiple characters. I think young people dressed as characters like a break in being able to interact with adults - many flirt, sit on your lap, and do other acceptable but more adult-oriented stuff.

For our upcoming trip, my mom's friend is also traveling with her kids and two very young grand kids. I was worried they'd want to tour with us and while we won't be commandos this trip, I really didn't want to spend time with diapers and feeding and pleasing cranky children - especially during dinner. Thank goodness my mom was super clear right from the start that we'll see them around the resort and grandma can meet up for us if it's nap time or maybe meet for a parade once or twice, but that's it.

Also, just a terminology clarification:
CHILDFREE = no kids, do not want kids
CHILDLESS = no kids, but would like kids (including people who want kids someday but not now)

So only people who would definately abort an unplanned pregnancy need apply to be considered "childfree"? If you have even the smallest smidgen of a doubt you're a "fencesitter"? I think you are closing the door on a lot of your sisters and brothers in the childfree lifestyle with that kind of black and white thinking.

Who said anything about abortion? A childfree person who is antiabortion can give the baby up for adoption.

Also, there is another difference in fencesitters and the childfree: childfree people generally are very vigilant about their birth control and some even take the next step of doing something permanently to make sure there's no "accidents" in case of a bc failure. Childfree people are less likely to have "accidents" then fencesitters.

Fencesitters tend to be more "loose" in the birth control dept- they are not as strict on using it every time, and in most cases have not done anything permanent (tubal or vas, etc).

WOW goofygirl YOU BEAT ME TO THIS POST!

I WAS GOING TO SAY THE SAME EXACT THING!

I DO think people who are childfree do something early on in their relationship so that they do not have to worry about getting pregnant- the adoption/"whatever" decision NEVER has to come up! :confused3

Hey, I just got an idea!

Maybe some of us can have a CHILDFREE DIS MEET! :cool1:

What do you think?? :sunny:

So fellow CCF friends, anyone have a fun weekend planned? DH and I are heading to Alton Towers, our favourite theme park tomorrow, then staying over night in the hotel there. Then on Saturday we are going back into the park as we are booked on a behind the scenes tour there. I can't wait. They have only done 3 tours this year so we were really lucky to get booked onto one.

I just checked out Alton Towers online, and it looks pretty sweet! It also looks like the Air coaster is the one I have seen on TV that is supposed to simulate flying. I couldn't find any pictures. Is that the one? If so, I am jealous. I absolutely love coasters! Hope you have a great weekend!

I see some people are from Cananda and Alabama!

:cool1: My hubby and I have been married for almost 4 years and have no kids. I didn't get married until I was 30, so the "urge" to have children has lessened as time goes on. It's not that we don't want them, we just don't have them. Still living in an apartment, I work a crappy job that doesn't pay much, and we love to travel. We can leave at the drop of a hat and not have to worry about packing up tons of stuff. And can I just tell you what a joy it is not to have to deal with throw up and runny diapers? :-) I have a niece that I spoil and that's great, but at the end of the day, I give her back. We may want to have a child someday, but for now, we get all the fun! Everyone bugs me at work about how come we don't have kids. I always say that I'm not having a kid just because the clock's ticking or for the sake of having one. That's no way to begin a life. Anyway, loving just being with hubby! :cheer2:

RCfan:I am a coaster freak too, I rode my 100th coaster last week! Yes, air is the flying coaster. It is one of my favourite rides, very smooth and a great coaster. Alton Towers also has Oblivion, the worlds 1st dive coaster which is scary!! Plus Nemasis which is an inverted coaster which for a long time was in the top 10 coasters around the world. I have ridden it about 150 times and it is still my favourite coaster ever!! The thing I love about Alton Towers is that it is so unique. It has world class rollercoasters and is set in the grounds of an ex stately home with amazing gardens. They have even put a ride based around a local legend within the ruined towers!! Can you tell DH and I are AP holders and go there a lot!

Here's a couple of pics for you:

Thanks for the pictures! That is definitely one coaster I would love to try! I saw it on I think the Discovery Channel. Looks like a nice park too!

Have you been to Cedar Point? I bet you would love it.

The park is really nice, very English!!
For our next American holiday DH and I plan to do a 3 week rollercoaster tour around America and Cedar Point is on the list along with a few 6 flags. When we last went to WDW we took a day out to go to Busch Gardens where we tool the thrill seakers tour which was really good. I loved Sheik'ra.
I really want to ride Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka. We have a ride at another park here called Stealth which is half the height of KK and launches at 80mph instead of 128mph. I have ridden that and enjoyed it.

Unless they were specifically looking for guidance in how to be cheerfully child-free.
I don't think this would be the thread for that. There are definitely some uncheerful posts here. ;)

I guess I sorta qualify for this thread...

DH has a DD and DS from his first marriage who I love to bits. We, however, do not have one together, and while ultimately I do no think we ever will, we do talk about it now and then. But we are very cheerful in our situation!

I have not gotten out to Busch Gardens yet, but it is on my 'to do' list'.

I certainly plan to go back to Cedar Point some day as we ran out of time before going on Top Thrill Dragster (which looks absolutely awesome). We were too busy riding Millennium Force, which is currently my favorite coaster.

You are correct about other options for an unwanted pregnancy and permanent birth control solutions. However, I have to disagree about your assessment of "fencesitters" and their ability to prevent pregnancy v/s "the childfree". Stuff happens. Unless you or your partner has permanent BC you run the risk of an unintended pregnancy. Please do not look down your nose at previously childfree or childless people whose birth control failed.

I can only speak for myself, but in the almost 30 years I have been sexually active the only time that I was not vigilant was when I wanted to become pregnant. I managed to prevent pregnancy just fine for the other 28 years of being childfree, then a "fencesitter" and now a parent.

With that, I will unsubscribe to this thread and leave you childfree folks to your cheerful thread :teeth:. I'll see most of you around the parenting threads :rotfl:!

I guess she means when we all come to our "senses" we will be on the parenting threads. We can't possibly be "cheerfully childfree". :rotfl2:

How about something to lighten the mood?

This exchange is from Little House on the Prairie, Season 9, episode "Hello and Goodbye." Almanzo is asking Mr. Montague about marriage and children.

Almonzo: Why didn't you ever marry?

Mr. M.: I never had the desire.

Almonzo: Oh. You never wanted a family?

Mr. M.: I don't like other people's children, I don't see why I'd like my own any better. *all said in a deadpan way*

I'm sorry, but every time I see this episode I am totally :happytv::rotfl2::lmao:

As a nurse, you should have known better than most about how to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

C'mon now, birth control fails. I'm on Depo (99.97% effective), but I've seen posts where people talked about how they knew someone on Depo and it failed. I know at least one kid born after dad had a vasectomy, so even sterilization isn't 100%. I think she mentioned foam and condoms, which aren't the most effective methods, but she may have reasons that she can't use hormonal birth control (family history, smoking, etc.). Now, I'll admit I do sometimes think this about all those celebrities in Hollywood (hello? Can you people not afford BC?), but I think I'd be too afraid to tempt fate to say it too loud ;)

I think she's making reference to some of the earlier comments about CF people posting on the threads about parenting. Personally, as long as people have valuable insight to share, I see nothing wrong with contributing to a parenting or CF thread, regardless of your situation.
