What a cool tree!! It makes me want to to all out this year! :earboy2:

Thanks, I wish I could keep it out all year but DH would know I was nuts then. :rotfl2:

My big tree is 8 ft. It has a big variety of ornaments. I have a Barbie tree. About 65 Barbies are on that one. Mostly Hallmark. I have what I call my foyer tree. It is about 6ft and skinny. It has smaller type ornaments on it. Not miniature just smaller. DH wanted a sci-fi tree since we had so many Star Trek and Star Wars ornaments. He has a thing for Marvin the Martian too. And of course last but certainly not least is my pride and joy. My Disney tree. It is about 6.5 to 7 ft tall. I have a picture handy of that one so I will post it here. All the ornaments are Disney and I have been collecting them for over 20 years. I have several more small trees for miniatures including 2 small wrought iron ones. I am a little more crazy than most when it comes to Christmas trees. My one big indulgence besides vacations. DH loves them too. He wants to do a sports theme tree next. :thumbsup2

:worship: :worship: :worship: OMG! That is the coolest! Now I'm going to be pestering DH for a Disney tree. I've already found a Tinker Bell tree skirt that is to die for.

Hixski, love the tree!!

Another temptation....the Disney monorail set, around a tree--DH told me he almost bought it for me several years ago but wasn't sure I'd like it...I've been considering it ever since.

Any of you work for a place where people are given a free week off (paid) when they have a child...but the ones not having kids are not given such a perk? Sorry, I must sound "not so cheerful" today!

Is that legal??? :guilty:

Is that legal???

I think so, if the company is private. It's the same issue with free or subsidized day care. People who don't have children don't get any equivilent benefit.
Companies are scrambling to appear family friendly, so expect to see a LOT more of this kind of thing.

I work for the government where everyone gets the same amount of annual leave to use based on length of service.

There are some who are pressing for parents to be offered extra leave to use for school events, etc. so they can use more annual leave for vacations.

I would assume if it ever came to pass, anyone without school-age children would not be offered the same leave.

Personally I don't mind them subsidizing day care. But to offer extra time off that other employees don't get...

Bump!

How are you all spending the holidays?

Today we made lasagne and garlic bread (heavenly! :cloud9: ) and went to see Borat. It's been a very pleasant Thanksgiving!

Last year we went to WDW and stayed at the Dolphin for Christmas weekend--this year we have a sick dog so it is less likely we will go out of town for Christmas unless he is much better by then.

I am at work right now. The people with children have to be home with them for the holidays. :rotfl2: (Actually I am sitting here babysitting about a hundred servers and such. Not working hard at all). Well they can stay home with their children. I will just take my triple time for tonight and tomorrow night, Thank you very much. I did get dinner today at my cousins on my way in so I am good on that part. :rotfl:

Oooooh, triple time! It would be hard to persuade me to work more than my three 12-hour shifts per week, but triple time mught just do it. :rolleyes1

Exactly!!!! :thumbsup2 I will work 48 hours this week and get paid for 106 hours. Thanksgiving holiday. I don't need no stinkin holiday. :rotfl2: I have done this for 8 years in a row. Pays for our Christmas and makes a dent in our skiing vacations in January.

Hi all!

Dh & I wanted to have a quiet Thanksgiving dinner at home, unfortunately my father (who is 84 and a pain worse than a bratty child) was his usual nasty self. Which meant a fight, yelling, and no peace! BUT dh & I did go and visit an assisted living place for Dad and I believe we will be putting him there after the first of the year. Then we'll have peaceful holidays!

We have 17 more days before we go to WDW to spend an early Christmas. We can't wait! :woohoo:

Oh and we did decide not to pursue IVF or donor egg in order to have a child. We decided that at our ages (I'm in my 40s, dh is in his 50s) that, although we love kids and would love to have one, we would rather focus on us and having fun (especially since we won't have Dad living with us anymore!) :cheer2: It was a hard decision, but to be honest...we're relieved and look forward to being on a continueous "honeymoon" (since most of our friends accuse us of being on anyway). :cloud9:

We had a great Thanksgiving, and actually opened presents on Thanksgiving this year instead of Christmas for one side of the family since we won't be together on Christmas. The kids had a blast opening gifts, and it was so nice to watch them enjoy those expensive presents from their parents without having to buy them, take them home and store them, trip over them, repair them, get shot with them, listen to them "say" the same thing over and over again, then eventually yard sale them. :teeth:

I love OTHER PEOPLE'S kids. :thumbsup2

Mischa, I'm glad you and your DH are happy :)

It was my mother and I for T'Giving dinner. We did some shopping on Friday, and on Sat afternoon we saw the movie "Borat"- which I thought was hilarious! Since it was an R movie, no kids were in there, which was a plus. I also decorated for Xmas and my tree is up :)

I was lurking on the "single moms" thread, and boy oh boy all I could think of was "that will NEVER be me, thank God." So many stories of dads not doing their jobs. But then again, I think if you want a child, you should choose a man of good quality to procreate with. Too many women who are so eager to be a mom choose losers to procreate with and I think that's really sad, especially for the child.

About workplaces- I am lucky with mine in that people don't abuse the "time off" thing. I really can't complain. But I know if I was an employer and an interviewee started asking about "how many days/hours off can I have because of the kids?" I wouldn't hire them because that raises some "red flags."

Awesome post, Goofygirl! :) I also think the same thing when I hear about having to cart kids all over creation, buying them cell phones, drama drama drama, etc.

Shhhhhh, don't tell the wife.
