Mike and I have decided to do the 1/2 this year and get out and cheer for everyone doing the full.

In the spirit of paying it forward we would love to hang out at a spot on the course to hand out goodies to our friends, the cookies, licourice, oranges etc where life savers for us and would like to do the same.

Where is a good spot to sit?

I was thinking going into Animal Kingdom, as that is at the end of a LONG BORING section of the race, it was great to see some WISHer's there last year or just outside HS going towards BWV again the licourice....yummmmm

Where do the vets think is the best place for us to hand out goodies and what would you like us to have......no we can't have adult bevvies avail but more then willing to share after the race:thumbsup2

Not sure since I haven't done the full but let me know what you decide and I might join you!
I'm going down with friends for the weekend and (probably) doing the half. If I can bring myself to hit the button, that is. Last year we stayed at the Beach Club and stood outside all morning cheering the marathoners, and it was great!
I *think* we're staying at the Beach Club again, but I'm willing to travel to anywhere I can get to via Disney transportation (plus a little walking).

Thank you very much in advance.

I know last year the people outside of Animal Kingdom were the most appriciated (by me anyways), also on the out and back. But anywhere is good place to see some wishers :thumbsup2

You all rock :cool1:

Hey Kim, Jim and I plan to be at AK for awhile before heading to cheer outside MGM. Pretzels always work for me, but a friendly, cheering face is even nicer!

I'll be volunteering early on and then head to HS outside to hang with Mel like I did last year!!! Had a great time and it worked out for me. I would not be able to make it to AK, but that seems like a great place to scream team at!!

I agree that outside AK is a place where I needed a puck-me-up. I also really appreciated the groups on the out and back too.
Thanks to all the cheer groups:)

Great thanks all. Ya I found AK the worst part of the course it is so long and boring and for us slower walkers there wasn't alot of entertainment along there so maybe we will hang out just before you go into the park, Karen and a few other WISHers where there last year, cookies and pretzels where great :thumbsup2

Yes and it was nice to see Mel and Tracey with licourice outside the studios;)

Kristy, you are welcome. It was so great to see friends along the course when I felt I couldn't take another step and was in so much pain I felt sick but seeing a familar face either on the course or people cheering us on helpped alot.

What about "Anne's Spot"? I name it that because I think she and a few others started this. It's around mile 21-22 at the turnaround point (probably halfway between AK & HS). For those of you who have done the full, you probably know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure if Anne is going to be there this year but I thought about keeping up with the tradition. It was a LIFESAVER for me during my first full when it was hot and muggy.

Oh ya that is another good spot Karen was there last year, with and forgive me cause I can't remember who was with her, can picture the face but the name escapes me. That turnaround I thought would never end and then to see smiling faces there with treats was awesome!!!!!

Just subscribing to see where everyone will be. It's going to be my first full so I want to know where I should be on the lookout for WISHers :)

Chester's wife, Tracy was the other Angel who was at the Osceola out/back section with Karen this year. In 2008 Heather was with Anne. I did the 1/2 in 2009 so not sure who was out there that year :)

Ahhhh, oranges, hugs, cheers and sweet sweet smiles. I get tears whenever I think of those at that spot. Oh sure I get emtional on the others too but that spot is a LIFESAVER. Forget New York, New York, if I can make it to THAT spot I can make it anywhere :thumbsup2

and let's not discuss the crying that happened outside MGM this year LOL

:love2::thanks::love1::cheer2::yay::hug::cloud9:  :woohoo::banana::cool1::goodvibes and can you believe it there isn't a heart clippie but I think you can tell I HEART our WISH Cheer/Support Crews :cheer2:

I'm subbing, too, because I don't know where I'll be but I know I'll be cheering at one of the "miles of desperation" spots. Maybe volunteering at a water spot beforehand, too. I haven't signed up for volunteering yet – heck, I haven't registered for the 1/2 or made travel arrangements yet – but you can count on me to be there somewhere along the route. Woot Woot!

So, if anyone wants a tagalong or two (DOOD is coming with me, I believe), let me know.

You guys are amazing! The smiles and support are so appreciated. I look forward to those special spots where I know I'll get that extra boost of energy just by seeing a fellow WISHer...especially at AK & HS where it can get a little rough. :grouphug: I'll be doing the Goofy again this year and can't help during the race; however, if you need any supplies please let me know. I'd love to help out any way I can!

If I am remembering correctly, here is who has been at the out & back:
2008 - Anne & Heather (I did the full that year, they were my lifesavers!!!!)
2009 - Anne, Me, Susie & Cheryl
2010 - Tracy & Me

Not sure if anyone was planning on being out there or not this year, but if anyone can be out there that is probably one of the best places to be.

I will be out scream teaming for the full again this year. More than likely though I will not make it out to the out & back. We will have our 2 1/2 yr old grandson with us & I'm thinking I probably won't get him to stay still for very long out there and not the safest place for him with traffic on one side of the grass median & runners on the other.

John is planning on doing the full so we will probably follow him around the course not really staying in one place for too long.

Anyone have any advice for scream teaming with a little one??? :lmao:

Karen I would love to at the out and back loved seeing you guys there last year but DH and I where actually talking about it yesterday and without a vehicle not sure how we would get out there?

Is it possible to get there just using Disney transit?

You definitely have to have a car (or get a ride from someone that does) to get to the out & back. You drive down the rode going past Pop Century (sorry, drawing a blank on the street name) heading towards Wide World of Sports. Before you get to the intersection/traffic light you find a place to park (pulling onto the grass on the side of the road or on the grass in the center median), then walk up to the traffic light, turn right & walk to the turn around of the out & back. (Standing on the grass median gives you a very long look down the road to look for the bright WISH shirts. :thumbsup2 ) Not really a far walk, but can feel like it when you are carrying oranges, pretzels, waters, twizzlers, wash cloths, etc. :lmao::lmao:

A warning / piece of advice for Scream Teamers
.....It is absolutely wonderful being a Scream Teamer, but when Scream Teaming (especially for the Full) you are out there for a very long time in the elements just like the racers. Please make sure to take care of yourself!!!! You need food & water too!!!!! You could be standing out in the blazing sun for hours or like last year, the freezing cold. :lmao:

Karen, I believe Kristi (otherwise known as: "We Wants the Red Head at Red Water Stop" fame) had Zach with her last year chasing Chad. Grant it, Zach is a tad bit older but perhaps she will have some suggestions of places to cheer from with a little one in tow.

Good point Karen, will have to do some scouting out. I want to be where I am needed most. Lots of time to decide also maybe someone who has a vehicle will want to be at the out and back with comepany and DH and I can hitch a ride.

Yea that AK Parking lot stretch was long. I never knew you could cover a mile and a half and still be in a parking lot. Plus it'll be nice to see some people (after that long stretch through the back roads of disney you do get a little lonely). AK last year was basically empty, a few CM's around.

The stretch on Osceola right after AK is even worse than going through the parking lot. That's one reason I was so glad to see a lot of people cheering, including many WISHers, at the overpass at the road to the All Star resorts around mile 19. That's a great spot that helps break the run down Osceola into more manageable pieces. Plus, there's a McDonald's right there to keep warm in if we get weather like this year's race.

That said, I think all of us runners are happy and thankful to see people out there cheering us on no matter where on the course they are. :)
