This is my first time posting, so I hope I am posting on the correct board. I was planning to take our first trip to Disney May 6-May 14. I just saw on WDW Prep that there is a cheer competition that first weekend. How much does the competition affect the parks and hotels? Is it a big enough effect that you would move the vacation back another week (May 13-May 21). We weren't planning on going to any parks the first day, so it looks like the only day that might be affected for us is on Sunday. What is your experience with cheer competitions?

The All Stars and other Values will probably be full of teams that weekend. The parks really depend. Some groups just go for the cheer competition and others go for the competition and the parks. Some groups act perfectly fine and others can be rude and loud. It is really hard to tell exactly how it may affect a trip. If you are super concerned and able then I would move by a week just so you aren't looking for the bad cheer teams in the parks.

This particular competition is The Summit. This is an invitation only competition. Only the best of the best get to go. That being said - these aren't you average cheerleaders... This isn't Pop Warner which does have the crazy loud onnoxious ones. These are athletes - most gyms don't allow the girls to be at the parks until the competition is either over or they didn't moe to Sunday. They are Mostly very respectable girls (and some guys)!

You might see it a it busier Minday and Tuesday (leftovers from the competition). However - I wouldn't worry about it too much!

The loud obnoxious ones I ran into at AS Sports same time last year were probably the ones you describe: not!!!

They were there by invitation only as well.:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

They are not a big influence on the parks, but the values and (somewhat less) moderates will be affected. I've been there at the same time as Cheer Summit last 4 years. Give me Pop Warner ANY day! The cheer summit gals travel in self absorbed herds and are very scantily dressed. _I_ am not comfortable with girls wearing nothing but super short spanx and sports bras (nothing else!). The moms are often obnoxious and look/act like they are straight out of a reality show.

However, I've never heard them cheer or chant. Security was called on them twice last year in Pop to quiet down in the rooms, but they weren't super loud.

Just as an FYI. There will be TWO Summit competitions next year. One will be May 5th-7th; the other May 12th-14th. (There's also Worlds which is the last weekend in April.) I'm hoping to be there with my girl and her team the second weekend :-). Both these competitions are highly competitive, and...as an earlier poster mentioned...many will not be allowed in the parks until after they compete. :-)

. Disregard. I stopped following D2 and didn't realize they moved it from Tampa to WDW. :) My daughter's gym is D1.

That's an awesome time of year to go! Weather is usually beautiful and crowds aren't terribly high.

I've been there during Pop Warner - at a value - and it was a non-issue. No massive annoying crowds, no practicing at the resort, etc. It was clear as the competitions were ending - because the number of kids with their competition awards around their necks started to increase in the parks. The number of girls with competition hair-dos at the parks was humorous. But in general,

There are events going on at Disney nearly all year round. Run events, cheer/dance events, large conferences, spring breaks, tour groups, fall breaks, holidays, other sport competitions, Disney parties, F&W, F&G, etc. I would NOT pick my vacation week based on "events" at Disney that you think might increase the crowds - those folks attending events are a normal part of the crowds at Disney. Sure - you might notice a "group" in a park - but that can happen ANYTIME of the year. The most annoying group I've ever had to deal with was a family reunion group who couldn't decide and had to debate about who was going to be in each of the different pictures with the characters at Character Spot (they were the group in front of me in line) - and you can't predict that.
