Hey everyone!

Jordan loves Junior High. He said he likes all of his classes except 2. He can live with that.
Samantha loves 1st grade and her teacher. I'm sure she'll have a new boyfriend by the end of the week  .
Well, time to go fix supper.

Glad your kids like their classes. Ask them again in a couple of months. ;)

Good Morning.

Wendy it's nice when the kids are liking school and their teacher. I guess the good thing about the kids getting older is having different teachers. If you don't like one you still have five or six others. :teeth:

Morning! How's everyone's Tuesday? I actually slept in this morning once I got the kids off to school. Right now I'm waiting for my coffee to finish, and I think I'm gonna play couch potato today :) .

Happy Tuesday to all, and to all, a Happy Tuesday.

I was driving down the highway back from a meal out last night. I saw a camouflage hat in the road, that looked like it had probably fallen out of somebody's huntin' truck. Keep in mind, I am in the middle of deer/turkey/anything else hunting territory.

Just as I was passing it by, I told my wife to look at that camouflage hunting hat lying in the road.

She said she didn't see it.

I told her it must have really been effective, then.

:rotfl:  :dance3:  :rotfl2: :lmao:

Go ahead, groan.

:sad2:

Morning. Boy traffic was bad this morning. I don't know what was going on. We have a weird traffic thing around here where everyone just slows down or comes to a complete stop for absolutely no reason. :sad2: I hope everyone enjoys their day!

I didn't groan! I laughed! That's very cute.

Good Morning and Happy Hump Day to ya.

Grim your camouflage story was cute. It started my day off with a laugh.

Hey everyone. I hope everybody's Tuesday was magical, and hope that Wednesday is exactly like Tuesday. ;)

It's only supposed to be in the mid-90's today, and then the heat wave ends tomorrow. It'll be mid-80's or so for the next week. Whew. I doubt we'll have any more 90's after that. It's getting too late in the year for these temps.

But now we are under mandatory water restrictions. Of course, we stopped watering anything by about mid-June. It became pointless, and a waste of water.

Morning Chicks and Roosters!

It's supposed to be in the 90's here today so I'll probably be melting this afternoon. That AC will be blowing today. Other than the weather, nothing else is going on. Pretty dull day here in the neighborhood.

By the way, I heard something on the news last night I never thought about:

As they were discussing the mandatory water restrictions, one guy mentioned that plants actually last longer if you don't water them daily. Daily watering allows plants to survive with shallow root systems. Watering less often forces plants to deepen their root systems to get water lower in the soil. This makes them less susceptible to severe droughts like we are having now. I must say that our trees don't look much the worse for wear.

That's interesting. It does make sense though. My parents had a rose bush that came with the house and was never watered. It was in a really weird place and was neglected yet continued to bloom and look good. When mom and I tried to dig the sucker up (it was time) we ended up using a sledgehammer to break up the root ball. That thing was strong!

I've been "laboring" much of today and yesterday on other threads in here where people seem intent on being negative about Disney. Nobody is flaming anyone, really, but people just seem hell-bent on seeing the bad things and nothing ever is good. People keep talking about the "good old days", when parks were clean enough to eat off the ground, Disney wasn't concerned about making a profit, and the CM's were all squeaky smiley all the time.

I have a lot of good memories from WDW, going all the way back to 1971, but I also have a lot of memories of parks that were far dirtier than they are now, MK was far more crowded because it was the only option, Disney nickeled-and-dimed guests to pieces with the tickets for each ride, rooms at the very few resorts available were exhorbitantly expensive compared to now, and CM's weren't nearly as well-trained to be polite to guests as they are now.

There is such a lack of perspective on these boards now that I never noticed before I was "blocked" off here for so long.

I could have sworn I posted this here yesterday, but no. I guess I had a brain fart. Sorry.

I had a funny thing (to me, anyway) happen to me yesterday morning. I was at the Subaru service shop, getting some warranty work done on our station wagon. It's a Legacy wagon, in a metallic green color. They get my car done and pull it out and park it in front of the service dept. windows with the keys in it (it's a small town, and well...). I'm sitting in there reading and see them drive it out and so I get up, stand in line to get checked out. The guy they just finished helping is a good ol' boy - friends with the dealership owner (it's a small town and I've seen this guy before). He walks outside and gets in my car. I'm like "Hey, Dude, that guy just got in my car!!!" So I run out and get his attention (he seems to be hard of hearing) as he's starting to crank the engine. I tell him he's in the wrong car, and he looks at me like I'm a fool. So then I tell him unless he's got black Mickey Mouse head fuzzy dice hanging on the rearview mirror and a Brad Paisley cd in the player, it ain't his car! He sees the Mickey-head fuzzy dice and does a double-take. The expression on his face was great!!! He apologized to me, and I laughed and said "No problem" or something like it. He then got into the car next to mine, which was an older model Legacy wagon in the same exact color. I think that was his car, as nobody else came out to chase him down.

I went back in and told the service manager that that would have been the hardest thing to explain to KAMommy...

My grass is almost completely dead. Except the crabgrass. The trees are doing fine though. Today in Knoxville we tied our record of most consequitive days above 90 degrees (30 days, last set in 1993). Tomorrow may be a squeaker, as the weather guys are giving us a high of 89.

Other cool stuff! We bought a new vehicle last week. It's a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, red with light gray interior. The dealer was clearing out for the 2008 models, so we got a good deal. It will be our weekender / long-trip vehicle. So far we haven't even put 200 miles on it yet. It is named 'Zippy Rockinella'. 'Zippy' because we were driving it around and KAMommy said it felt pretty zippy to her, and 'Rockinella' because Katie thinks that is just the AWESOMEST last name. The last van we bought I had to trade *my* car in for it (it was a Pontiac Montana, for which I traded my Chevy Camaro for it). That was a culture shock (like a kick in the groin)... This time around I kept my car!

Yes, the crabgrass lives. We haven't had anything like 30 consecutive days of 90+, but we've had three instances in this heat wave where we've had 100+ for 2 days straight. That had not happened since the 1990's even once. Lexington weather (about 90 miles north of me) reports 23 days in August will probably end up being over 90, which is close to a record. But it's often been 5-7 degrees hotter where I am than in Lexington in August. Of course, the 106 we had last week one day broke the record, by 3 degrees, for the hottest temperature ever recorded in my town.

Cool about the new vehicle!

We finally had to trade in our awesome 1999 Nissan Quest in January. I got us a 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring edition. It is quite expensive, but oh, man is it nice.

Grim, you are right, there is a lot of whining and complaining about Disney all over the place. Coming from my position as a travel agent, I wonder why some people bother to travel at all. My aunt is like that. I can plan the most perfect trip for her, and she'll find something wrong with it. I think the biggest complaint from her is not enough time to shop. :sad2: There are so many better things to do than spend a vacation in a gift shop. As for Disney, people either love it, hate it or deal with it when necessary.

GD, that was funny about your car! I have on occasion tried to get into the wrong car, but fortunately it usually involves me pusing the unlock button on the key fob and nothing happening. Eventually I realize that there is no Larry Boy hanging from that car's rear view mirror or Tinkerbell antenna ball and I'd best move on. When I bought my car there didn't seem to be too many red Ford Escapes, but now they are everywhere. Congrats on the new car and getting to keep yours! :thumbsup2

Knoxville has seen many 100+ days. Which is weird, because we're up in the mountains and usually 5 or so degrees cooler than Nashville / Chattanooga. Through most of this we've only been a degree or two under them. Most summers if we see two week's worth of 95+ degree weather, that's a hot one.
It's "only" been up to 103 here, so you guys win that one. I'd give you a trophy, but it melted.

We looked at Honda Odyssey. I like them. It was more expensive for a basic Odyssey than for a loaded Grand Caravan. But we used the Honda as a bargaining chip in our negotiation...

I once rented a Nissan Quest for work. We had a client who had bought an apartment complex in Atlanta, and so we had half the office down there for three days taking measurements and photos so we could develop as-built drawings (that was a very hot few days). When I was in the rental office, the guy said it was "The Sports Car of minivans", which I thought was very funny and we busted on that the entire trip. But honestly, that thing could haul when you put your foot into it...

So maybe Zippy R. ain't THE "sports car of minivans" (the Quest gets the capitalized "Sports Car", in my opinion) but we're happy.
