Good Morning. Today is the last official day of summer for my kids. I'm a little happy :cool1: and sad :guilty: at the same time.

GoofyDad I'm enjoying reading about your trip. I only read MK and Animal Kingdom so far but I will read it all.

I'm all finished now. Great report GD. That was cool meeting up with Elisabeth. I used to post on a thread with her. Such a nice lady.

Good for you going back in two months. No Disney withdrawal for you.

Morning All! Today's been a great day. Went this morning for a meeting with the administator of schools to evaluate the testing Samantha took for the Gifted Program, and she got in :cheer2: . Jordan has been in it since 1st grade and starts Special Topics this year in 7th. I'm so proud of them. Jordan always said he got 99% of my brain cells, and the younger 2 split the last 1% :rotfl: . Apparently a little more slipped through :thumbsup2 . My main goal with the younger one is to keep him out of jail :lmao: . He's the clown of the group. Jordan has decided he wants to be an Architect. He's been looking for good architectural schools on the internet.

GD, great trip report. I would love to be able to surprise my kids with a trip like that. I think I would burst at the seams though.

Morning!

I can't believe that summer is over for so many kids! Our local schools don't start yet but my hometown started yesterday. My little neice starts preschool on Monday (she's 3) and the big news is she's been going potty in the toilet! You are all parents, you know this is a celebration. I talked to my BFF this morning and she told me the good news.

GD, the trip sounds like it was great. I'd love to be able to surprise someone with a trip. The Disney Dollars were a great idea for a gift to lead in to the big one.

Congrats on your brilliant kids Wendy! When does school start for your kids?

If he has any questions about the schooling or the profession in general, feel free to ask.

I can only say they didn't get it from their dad! :lmao: JUST KIDDING! (not really);)
They start back to school August 27th. I'm done school shopping for the older ones, so Ethan decided today he needed his "big boy school clothes", so we had a little shopping spree.

Thanks GD! He'll probably have plenty of questions.
What school do you think has the best program? I know he's only in 7th grade, but I don't think it's ever too early to get them started headed in the right direction. :goodvibes

Night everyone! I'm so excited! I'm going tomorrow after work to book our Disney vacation for April!!!! I'll start my banana dance now

Well, the answer is, of course - University of Tennessee (my alma mater)!!!

When I was a senior in high school, we were living in Beckley WV. This was WAY back in 1987. I've known I wanted to be an architect since I was a Lil' GoofyKid of 4 or 5, so I was only interested in universities with architectural schools. I applied for and was accepted by Ball State (Muncie IN), UT, & Virginia Tech. I also applied to UNC and UVA - I was NOT accepted there (my grades weren't bad but not great either). So of the three here was the run-down... Since we were in Beckley at the time, VTech was the closest and some of my high-school friends were going there. But it would have been out-of-state tuition, no scholarships or anything to help out. Ball State would have been feasible - I could have moved in with my grandparents in Indiana and get in-state, and it was my dad's alma mater so there'd be some established connection for me. But... I didn't really want to go there. UT was where I really wanted to go - I love college football and UT is one of the perennial powerhouses. Plus, since I was living in WV, and WV doesn't have a university with a college of architecture in the state, there's a reciprocity agreement with TN so that WV Architecture students pay in-state tuition. With reciprocity it became a no-brainer for me. And that is where I ended up.

If I were making the same decision nowadays - I'd probably decide on Ball State for me personally. They have a very strong program and the Chair (aka Dean) is a guy by the name of Jon Coddington. He was my design lab professor & thesis advisor for my senior project when he was at UT.

UT's program is very good, and a relative bargain (as most land-grant state schools are). I mock-interview bunches (meaning: a dozen or so) of graduating seniors for career week and real-interview a few for our firm each year and I'm usually impressed with the quality of their education (at least what they show in portfolio and how they carry themselves face-to-face).

Good Morning. First day of school here. :teacher: I'm having to learn this routine thing all over again. I was rather liking my sleeping until 7:00 in the morning. Oh well, life goes on.

Wendy congrats to Samantha. :woohoo:

Susan being potty trained is a big accomplishment. Big girl undies all the way. :thumbsup2

I almost forgot .............Happy Friday! :teeth:

Our kids started back on Monday. We're still not back in the routine but maybe next week will be better.

Morning everyone!! I'm still here and still pregnant ;) This baby just gets bigger and bigger and i'm getting more and more tired :) How is everyone?!! Wendy, how fabulous for your daughter!! What a great run down on schools GD!!

I love all the advice we can share here :) Well at the moment the only advice I can share is how to get VASSELINE out of a 1yr olds hair :scared1: MY DS is a maniac I tell you :)

Have a fabulous friday and I seriously hope you all have a better weekend planned than we do!! we have to gut and clean out our garage and then steam clean the carpets! We've decided to do it ourselves adn are really already regrettign the decision! :lmao: we just had them done in May and i'm realllllly hating carpeting at the moment!!

Hi Michelle, it's nice to hear from you.

Take it easy on the garage cleaning, use being pregnant as your excuse. We just did that over the fourth of July holiday. The finished product is so worth it but not fun while doing it. :sad2:

Hey Cheeks, and Roosters!

It seems the blocking server is down for a bit, so I'm doing a little catch-up.

My oldest DD started 2nd grade on Wednesday. Our youngest DD, almost 4, will start pre-k in the same school as our oldest on 8/20. It's great for the girls to be back in a structured environment (and at one drop-off location), but I'm dreading the upcoming transition/screaming for our youngest. She can be a pill, and is extremely young for her class, so it's going to be interesting.

I have less than 2 months before we check into Wilderness Lodge! Woo hoo!!! :)

Good morning Chicks and Roosters!

It's so good to have both our guys back! DMM you take care of yourself! Don't work too hard this weekend.

My plans also include cleaning. My mother's school is having a big rummage sale in a couple of weeks so I am going to be scouring my house for donations. I also got an ice cream maker so I'm pretty excited to try that.

Tricia, isn't starting school on Friday a bit of a bust? Here kids, welcome back to school, now enjoy your weekend! Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. :confused3

Have a good one!

ooo back to school time! I remember loving this time of year! I'm one of those dorks tha tloved school!

Not to worry chix and roosts, i plan on supervising the garage cleaning :lmao: ;)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Amazing things we learn that our Mothers never taught us or talked about. Not that they didn't know, they just wanted us to figure them out on our own. :rotfl:

GD, thanks for the run down on schools. He wants to know what you think of Kansas State. We live in WV. Do they still offer in-state tuition @ UT?
Of course he loves WVU and should I dare say the Mountaineers :cheer2: .
I just want him to get into the best college he can.

Hey Grimley! Great to see you!

Guess what :rolleyes1 ?

I BOOKED OUR PACKAGE FOR DISNEY TODAY!!! Now I really feel like I'm going. I went ahead and did the Deluxe so we can do some character stuff and some Sig places. I hope I don't regret it :) .

Am I even allowed to say howdy?

I've missed you all.

Fab! Where've you been? We've been missing you! Hope everything is going well. I'm really glad you are back. ::yes::

 We've missed you too. I hope everything is OK with you. Please come back and chat.

Happy Saturday! I've got to go shopping for school supplies for Kelsie today. Of course in High School they can't or won't let you know what supplies you need until the first day of school. So today along with all the other HS students we hunt for supplies. :headache:

Wendy great news on booking your package. It does make it seem more real doesn't it? I've still only got my "room only" reservation for February. I'm just waiting to see if a code will come out.

Grim it was so nice to see you too.
