I've never been to Le Cellier, only because for steak in WDW we have always picked the higher-tier restaurants like Yachtsmen and Shula's.

That being said, every time we walk past Canada I can't help but think of how nice a bowl of Cheddar soup with a pretzel would be. Is the Cheddar soup good enough to justify a ressie for a light lunch at Le Cellier? If not, I'm more than happy to spend our usual Epcot afternoon drinking Margaritas and eating Tostadas in La Cava. :thumbsup2

As a canadian myself, I can tell you in my personal opinion that its soooo not worth it. I didnt find this soup to be anything spectacular to be honest. I dont understand the hype with the soup or the pretzel bread. In fact, I had a far better soup at biergarten (cr.of cauliflower i think it was?). Sooo good and far better than the "famous" cheese soup. The pretzel bread at biergarten was almost identical as well. if your curious then give it a shot. But i wouldnt go out of my way for it.

That's my plan for my next trip. I'm planning to schedule a lunch ADR and just order a bowl of the cheese soup and maybe a dessert.

Whether it's "good enough" is really subjective and all about personal preference. You won't know for sure if it's good enough for you unless you try it at least once. I personally think it is. :thumbsup2

My vote goes for the margaritas and tostados!:thumbsup2

Nothing against Le Cellier - we ate there for the first time in November last year and loved our entrees. I, for one, though, was disappointed with the pretzel bread and the cheddar cheese soup. They both were way too salty for my taste. I enjoyed the multigrain bread much, much more. As a PP pointed out, though, its all in personal taste. If you've never tried it, maybe you should and see what you think. You could always have it for lunch and then enjoy your margaritas and tostados later in the evening.:thumbsup2

Hello,

I'm not 100% sure of this but I did read on the boards that the
cheddar soup and pretzel bread were going to be part of this years
Wine and Food Festival. If you are planning a trip during this time, perhaps
your problems are solved.

I think you should definitely try the cheddar cheese soup at least once. Lots of people absolutely love it.

I'm not a huge fan, and I actually think every single other lunch appetizer is better than the cheese soup (chicken sausage, marinated tuna, duck meatballs, etc). I don't think it's because the soup is bad (it's just a bit heavy for my tastes) - rather, I think Le Cellier lunch has some of the very good appetizers overall.

I've heard rumors on these boards before that you can go up to the hostesses and just order a bowl of it to go, with the pretzel bread. This is not always allowed, but apparently if it is not super busy and you get a nice CM, you can pay and get it to go.

If you are going just for the soup, I would try that. I don't think it would be worth it to go JUST for the soup and bread, it is good but not worth skipping somewhere else just to try it. I mean if you were getting the Filet and the maple creme brulee also, it would be a no brainer... ;)

It's so subjective, I don't find it at all spectacular in addition to being way too salty! (this from someone who carries a tin of finishing slat!!)
However, we :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc
La Cava
Chips & margarita flight =:cloud9::cloud9:
...........but, I think Le Cellier is a fun experience (not worth 2 TS [although we are having dinner there this trip, it's a tradition])

Overall I really enjoyed Le Cellier when we went in February, but I was hugely disappointed in the cheese soup (cheese is my absolute favourite food and I was looking forward to it). It was way too salty, but worse than that, it was very floury, as if there was too much thickener in it and it hadn't been combined properly :confused3

I heard that, also. I'm going to try it on our next trip. :thumbsup2

We ate at Le Cellier once, and I had been very sick just prior, so my throat was still very sore, but the meal was very "meh." I actually don't remember the steak having any flavor at all, and the atmosphere was nothing to write home about. I did enjoy the soup, but something hot on my throat was probably why. I have been wanting to try it again, just to see if it was because I was so sick that I was not thrilled with the meal (it was one of the worst illnesses I have ever had, and I caught it about 4 days in to our 2 week trip), but I don't see the kids sitting there and missing out on the parks just to eat steak, lol. We live in Texas, and there's a steakhouse on every corner practically. :rotfl2: It's not something that we can only get at WDW, like the character meals, are, KWIM?

-- EXACTLY!

Last year... the soup was tasteless, gross, and had the presentation of vomit. I've had better soup out of a can. Whey people like it, I have no idea. So many better places to eat at Epcot and the Epcot area resorts... especially for the price and dinner being 2 dining credits. For goodness sake, go to Flying Fish Cafe.

But let me tell you about a REALLY good cheese soup I had (if you like oysters). Brown Derby had a brie cheese soup with oysters that was heavenly (and loaded with oysters!). You can read more in my reviews.

While I like the cheese soup, I also feel that it doesn't quite live up to the hype. The pretzel bread did, however. Agree with others who said you could get the pretzel bread at the Biergarten.

I've had some very good food at WDW, but really nothing that I would consider a "must have at all costs" sort of thing.

You can sample the cheese soup at the Canadian kiosk at the upcoming Food and Wine Festival ... that is a very good event to "eat around the World" and get a sampling of many cuisines. If you are on the dining plan, you can use the snack credits for these samples.

Again, I liked the soup but could easily live without it.

The last time we ate at Le Cellier to soup and bread was about the only part that was even close to being good, but I agree that you can find better elsewhere.
