:earsboy: Hi there! This will be my first cruise and also our first time flying..we have flown in helicopters but I am sure planes are different. I have read all these posts about checking bags and I don't understand exactly what it means. Could someone please tell me about "checking" your bag and also what do you bring in your carry on? TIA :earsgirl:

Checking your bag in your question is probably referring to giving it up to the airline so they may put it in the cargo hold and transport it for you. You check your bags when you check in at the airport ticket counter. They will take usually up to two bags per person and transport them for you. They should (hopefully :teeth: ) arrive when you do at your intended destination.

You will then do the same at the cruise terminal. You will hand your bags over to the terminal employees and the bags should again (MAGICally) appear at your stateroom later in the day.

If you are traveling the same day DCL will give you tags that will allow you to not have to worry about claiming your bags at MCO. You can just go and board your bus, town car, etc. The tags mean the bags will be taken care of "behind the scenes" and will arrive safely in PC at your door.

Carryons you want to pack your cameras, film, medications, books, electronics, identification(s), snacks, jewlery, etc. Anything valuable or of real importance or you will need during your trip.

Have fun and good luck.

Hi. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

When you go to the airport, you go to a counter for your airline to get your seating assignment or just check in if you already have your seating assignment. At that counter they tag any luggage you are not physically carrying on the plane with you and send it through to the luggage handlers who load it into the plane's belly.

I usually carry as little as i can get by with in my carry on. Tooth brush/tooth paste, brush, contact stuff, small makeup bag, something to sleep in, change of underwear.

There are lots of things that you are allowed to put in checked luggage that you cannot bring in your carry on - metal nail files, knives (even pin knives), cigerette lighters, check with the airline website for a full list. If they see them in your carry on when they xray it during boarding, they will remove them and most times you won't get them back.

I haven't been on a helecopter before - I bet that is fun.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget to keep your cruise documents with you. When we were on our March cruise, a few people had to get off the bus and go get their documents from the checked luggage that had gone under the bus!!!!

We always carry anything valuable--cameras, electronics, ids, travel documents, reading material, jewelry, cosmetics, swimsuit and a change of clothes. Just in case our checked luggage doesn't make it.

We always fly in the night before so have to claim our checked luggage at the airport but our carry ons contain our clothes for the next day so we don't have to open our big bags.
