I don't know if times are changing or they are getting stricter, but I can tell you what I witnessed last week checking into the Beach Club. The man next to me (about a foot away) was checking in and the CM asked to see his AP. He said he had not gone to guest services to activate his voucher. The CM was nice, and told him, that's OK, your room will be at rack rate and as soon as you get your AP, please stop by the desk and verify it and we will change your rate to the discounted amount. I was shocked to hear this since I had always heard that they barely check. The man's jaw dropped and he said, OK, but seemed confused (probably the first time this had happened). So this makes me think that there is new computer software prompting the CM to ask for verification. On a side note, we were checking in at a CM discount and are not always asked to show our ID, but we usually offer it. Midway through our check in, the CM asked, please show me your CM ID.
