I booked an AP rate for the AKL from January 27th throught February 3 at the AKL. I just received by AP in the mail, and it says I have to pick it up at any of the four ticketing spots. My question is, do I need to pick it up before I check in, or will my receipt for the AP be enough?

Thanks for your help.

From reading my unofficial guide, and other posts I think it really just depends on the CM at the front desk. I've read where the voucher was enough, and I've also read where they had to exchange the voucher for the actual AP. So I guess I would go and exchange the voucher for you AP just to be safe. I hope that helps!

I agree. Don't make a special trip just to activate the AP. We had the same when we checked in, just an AP voucher. We were never actually asked to see it during check in. If they ask for it, just explain that you just arrived and haven't had time to pick it up. The CM will most likely ask you to return with it before check out to avoid the rack rate charge.

I just ordered my AP and made a Contemporary reservation with the AP rate. The CM I made the reservation with told me that I needed to have the AP in hand when I checked in. Since we are getting there at noon, it won't be a big deal to just walk on over to the MK to get it activated if need be.

We never were asked or needed to show our APs when we stayed with an AP rate. That isn't to say things haven't changed or a CM will not ask to see it.
But I agree that I can't imagine any CM giving guests a hard time, or charging them rack rate, when the AP can produced it later, before check out. Or even if a guest has a voucher or confirmation.
We went through the same as we did not rent a car. And it was just not convenient or feasible to run to get an AP activated before check in.

I just showed my voucher at AKL. Even if you had to show it, it's a fast trip over to AK from AKL to do that. I think round trip is was 30 minutes max.

:cool1:

I have never been asked to see my AP and have had AP room rates at least 20 times over a few years. As others have said, I would just show my vouchure, if asked to show your AP. If that isn't good enough then get the AP and return with it.

Great thread ... thanks! This is my first AP ... going to POP on 2/12 ... although the room savings and savings with the Disney Dining Experience card make it worth it for this trip alone, am hoping I can figure out a way to get another trip within a year. Love the Mouse and Friends!

We've used the AP discount probably 10 times and only once have we even been asked to show our AP upon checkin.

We were checking in around 8:00 in the evening and had a voucher. The CM told us to stop back in the next couple days with our activated AP and that would be good. We exchanged our voucher the next day and stopped at the front desk and everything was fine.

We had the AP rate on our last stay. We were not carded.

I think it depends.

what is an ap rate and who is qualified to use it? :rockband:

Bellamom -- an AP is an Annual Passholder. The regular AP (about $420) gives you unlimited admission to the 4 main parks for 365 days from activation. The Premium AP (costs more) gets you that and more, such as admission to water parks, DD and Pleasure Island.

With an AP you are qualified for several discounts, as they appear, including substantial discounts on rooms (when available). With one adult AP you can get discounts on (I think) up to three rooms per stay. Any AP holder can get the discounts, provided they are available (rooms can at AP rates book up fast). Also, you can purchase the Disney Dining Experience for $50 which gives you discounts on many resturants. You also get free parking at the parks, and a host of other benefits.

The question on this thread is whether you need to have the AP at check in, or just the voucher (which you would redeem for the actual AP at a park or Downton Disney) at resort checkin. You do not need to have the actual AP in hand to call Disney and get your AP room rate or to purchase the DDE.

Hope this helps!

I was told when I made reservations with AP code that I needed an activated AP when I checked in and the voucher would not be acceptable. When we checked in at AKL my DH's AP was carefully scrutinized. I swear the CM who checked us in spent 5 minutes peering at it before she handed it back. We were at the Dolphin 5 days before we moved over to AKL and we had exchanged our vouchers for AP's 4 days before we checked in to AKL so the AP was valid until 01/05/06. I am not sure what she was looking for while she was examining it but it sure did take her awhile.
