Checking In On Grand Californian DVC

I agree! My guide told me last week that GCV "definitely would not go on sale this year" and that it might be an entire year from now until they do. I find the latter half of that statement incredibly difficult to believe and disclaimer: the guide has been anything but honest or ethical thus far.

Has any one else had a DL Guide say anything regarding sales timeframe for the GCVs?

I was originally told in Oct '07 that sales would not begin until around 6 months before opening. That would put it somewhere around May '09. I'm not familiar with CA timeshare laws so I don't know how much has to be complete before they can start selling.

When are they going to put us out of our misery and give us the sales date, price and point charts for GC! This is just plain cruel! The West coast is always second fiddle.

I thought I read somewhere (on these boards, actually) that DVC sales to west coasters have been disappointing, so maybe DVC management has placed VGC on the back burner in order to promote resorts that they percieve will be more profitable (ala BLT and the THV). :confused3

Oh well, gives me more time to save money.....

My guess is that if they were anywhere close (within 4-6 weeks) to being ready for sales at GCV, they would have announced the start of sales today, along with BLT. So it's got to be a few more months at least. I'm just happy that the price per point for BLT is reasonable, and that the points/night aren't as scary as I had feared. I think the GCV and BLT are probably going to be fairly close to each other price and pointwise, so it was good to get an idea of what we might be looking at.

I feel that way also. I was afraid points would skyrocket, but $112.00 for BLT isn't so awful, and if GCV is the same then I can handle it.

You did read it here on these boards as some people were commenting on an article that Al Lutz ran on his MiceAge website a couple of months back.

I also find it quite odd that they would make such a ta-doo about having the models open and ready without being able to actually sell what they're showing. Even though it really isn't, it kind of seems like a bait and switch operation going on... here look at these beautiful rooms that you'll be able to stay in - but wait, you have to buy in FL first before we graciously give you the opportunity to buy here in CA... With that mindset, and who knows how many months til they actually start selling VGC - I personally think they should just shutter the models again and the various DLR DVC kiosks until they are actually ready to sell the CA property - but of course, keep the phone number open if someone wants to purchase a FL property.

I was told that the CA timeshare laws are stricter than FL and they have to be way closer to occupancy to sell

While I have no idea whether this is actually true, it would not really surprise me. First, try to convince people that the best place to use their already expensive purchase is all the way across the country with gas prices at record highs and user UNfriendly airlines. And while I know it is "tough all over," has anyone noticed that California has 5 of the top 10 cities for foreclosures nationwide? It is hard to convince someone (and I don't think anyone should try!) who is losing their primary home that they should buy a timeshare, second home. Of course people in this position probably are not spending a lot of time at Disney, but clearly California is a real estate mess!

My DL "guide" told me that in California timeshares have to be 90% complete before they are legally allowed to begin pre-sales, however, I've been unable to verify this as fact.

Also, my Founding Member paperwork states that I shall be informed of the GCV Public Pre-Sale 90 days in advance. FM pre-sale period is 60 days. So there is an extra 30 days there. Will I get notified 30 days in advance of the FM pre-sales period? Or will the 90 days be: 60 days FM, 30 days all other DVC, then Public?
