Does anyone else feel that the earlier you check into your Disney resort the better the odds might be of you getting a room request? Now I know that request are just that, a request. Doesn't mean it will happen. But I am thinking of going over to SSR on the morning of April 1st, before we head to Typhoon Lagoon and check in, see if my request are noted and then head back to POR to get ready with the family for Typhoon Lagoon. And if I get a request, great and if not, I will be just fine.

Sounds like a plan or not?

Nope. Case in point, I'm "checked in" to my hotel for an August 2019 stay already. So when you arrive physically onsite really doesn't matter. As long as your request is noted on your account (which you can verify now if you want to, just call them up and have them pull your reservation), if they can fill it they will!

Yes, your room is assigned ahead of time with online check in, but the potential to lose your room is always there if they haven't texted you your room number yet. It could be given to someone else if there is an issue with someone else's room or someone who checked in earlier in the day requests a change.

I have found the opposite to be true,we usually arrive before 8 am and go straight to the desk because our room is never ready. The cast member usually will give us one that's ready right now. Probably why we never have gotten anything close to our request.

We actually had to give up our request in September because the room was not ready. They were trying to give us the exact room we requested via TP.

We were so tired we didn't care and it was after 4pm. Wound up getting an upgrade! lol

You can opt to wait for a room that is closer to your room request if you'd like.

I've had that experience with online check in when I put in an early arrival time, except I don't want the room that's ready now over the one that matches my requests (there's a box to tick to say early arrival should override requests and I never check it, but they do it anyway).

I find when you arrive earlier in the day they can sometimes work with you to find a room available that might be gone if you show up later. I've always requested a king bed and never got it no matter the time I showed up lol. But I have accepted rooms that were ready right away that didn't meet exactly what I wanted so I could get into a room quicker.

I would do it. I have found that the later I check in the less appealing my room assignment.

I once checked in at POR really late, close to midnight, and the CM showed me a list of rooms i could choose from.

Nope. 100% believe time you check in is completely unrelated.
Because your room is assigned 5 or so days before you walk in the door

I, personally, wouldn't waste time doing that. I have stayed in WDW resorts over 40 times and I've never not gotten part of my requests granted. Sometimes I've gotten exactly what I asked for and that was a time I checked in at 11 pm. I've also shown up late afternoon to find there were no rooms in my category immediately available, so they upgraded me from a standard to garden view. If your requests are currently noted on your reservation, they will do their best to accommodate you when they assign rooms a few days before. If you don't like what you get, you can always ask to switch rooms.

True, but you might have a chance to change it if you are there early? I have done this in the past at POR, but I think that is the only time I actually asked for a change.

That is a different question
The question you have is
Does time you arrive afford you a better chance to change rooms if you don't like the one you are assigned?
I still say no
People come to Disney from all over the world. It may be 2am at Disney, for instance but that's like noon for folks from somewhere.
