I have a couple of boxes (FEs, etc.) that I'll be checking in at NYC port. I plan to write our name/room number on it. Should I also tape a luggage tag to it? I'm a little nervous about them getting lost. Has anyone done this?

Anything that is being checked in to be brought onto the ship needs a luggage tag. That should ensure (as much as possible) that it is delivered to your room, just as suitcases would be.

Be aware, checked bags are not handled particularly gently. Your box may wind up at the bottom of the pile.

That was my thought too--don't do it!!!! They also can be held outside before boarding (or at the airport) which means a box might get rained on and disintegrate. What about a cheap plastic storage bin like the kind you can get for storage that you tape up really good? It might have a bit more durability than a box.

Now I am wondering if I should just carry on my suitcases as opposed to leaving them. 100% unimpressed with the handling of luggage in that manner.

That’s pretty much what happens at the airport too, just out of sight.

Its actually not, they don't randomly throw luggage on top of one another roughly 5 feet in the air. You know why? Because they don't want to unstack 5 feet of luggage to move it again and there is only roughly 3.5-4 feet underneath a 737 which is a normal domestic aircraft.

I will also outline I have only checked luggage 4 times in the last 2 years over roughly 100 flights.

I don't question there is some rough handling of bags though through airlines and just part of the reason I typically avoid checking bags all together, not to mention potential of lost luggage (which is a terrible risk when you travel a ton).

If your suitcases are carry-on size, that is an option. Anything larger must be checked.

Enjoy your cruise!

Just have to do an extra good job packing the primary suit case.
