Does anyone know if car seats count towards your baggage limit on Air Canada?

Unless AC has changed their policy lately....no it's not baggage.

It will be very simple for you to check on the website. The baggage policies are very clear.

I checked the website before I posted and was confused because it seems to contridict itself. Their policy states :"A child restraint device (e.g. car seat) may be carried in checked baggage, over and above the regular allowance for an infant or child up to age 12." and on another page says "A child restraint device (car seats, booster seats*) counts toward your baggage allowance when transported as checked baggage, unless the approved device is required onboard for seating the infant or child in his or her own paid seat." I tried calling Air Canada to firgure out the answer, but hung up because I was on hold a long time. I thought I would try here to see if anyone had any experience. Thank you for your response.

From Air Canada:

http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/baggage/checked.html

According to the info at the above link, a child 0-12 years old with a ticket is allowed 1 piece of free checked baggage for travel within Canada or between Canada and other destinations (except Jamaica) plus a car seat to be transported as checked baggage or used on the plane plus a stroller to be checked at the gate. No charge for the car seat or stroller.

However, on the same page it also states:

Infants and children

A child restraint device (e.g. car seat) counts as one checked baggage item, unless an approved device is required onboard for seating an infant or child up to age 12 in his or her own paid seat.

So you're right, the website contradicts itself. The only thing I can figure out is they are confirming that the second item you check for a child must be a car seat, or there will be a charge(?) Try calling at a different time. I would be interested in what you find out!
