My JetBlue flight lands at MCO around 5:30pm and I am headed to Pop afterward. Given my son's bedtime, I think I'd prefer to retrieve my checked luggage myself rather than have someone dropping it off in our room in the late evening. I'm just curious how efficient JetBlue and MCO are about getting bags from the plane to the baggage carousel. How much time does collecting checked luggage typically add to process of getting through MCO and onto Magical Express?

It usually take about 15 minutes for it to appear. Given the fact you will have to wait to get off the plane then walk to the baggage claim area.

Now remember you will be landing on the "A" side of the airport and you will have to claim your luggage form the "A" side. But the Magical Express is on the "B" side of the airport so you will have to drag your luggage through the airport to reach the DME bus. So you might want to rent a luggage cart Since you have to cross over the airport to reach DME I would plan on it taking an hour from the time you plane reaches the gate to the time you get to the DME area

Or just pack your first night needs in your carry-on luggage, then let DME transport your checked luggage and let both the Front Desk and Luggage Assistance know to hold your bags until morning.

As noted, Jetblue lands on Side A of MCO. This means you have to take the tram from your gate area to the main terminal...this is level 3. Then, you go down to level 2, Side A to collect your bags (can take up to 20 mins), then back up to level 3, Side A, cross over to Side B, and go down to level 1 for DME. Not a huge issue but if you have a little one, and bags to manage, it can be cumbersome.
If you land on-time at 5:30, you should be at Pop by 7. If you tag your bags for DME collection, they would be in your room by 10ish, maybe later. Pop is slow on baggage delivery! I would tag the bags, and put night stuff in a carryon and use DME. When you get to Pop, tell them to hold your bags until the next morning. Put the 'privacy please' hanger on your door. You shouldn't be disturbed.
