Hello savvy travelers! I am looking at a fare on Alaska Airlines website that is Alaska for the first leg and American for the second leg. There is just a 90 minute layover in Dallas. It looks like Alaska is partnered with American.

Can anyone tell me if I pay just the normal $25 bag check fee that Alaska charges? Or do I have to also pay American a fee?

Thanks,
Melissa

This is direct from Alaska, I'd call to double check.

Travel that includes multiple flights
If your trip includes more than one flight on Alaska Airlines and/or one of our airline partners, we will check your bags to the final destination on your ticket as long as there are fewer than 12 hours between flights.

If you will be in the connecting city for 12 hours or longer, you will need to claim and re-check your baggage. Additional baggage fees may apply.

Travel that includes multiple airlines or tickets
If your travel includes multiple tickets, and/or travel on more than one airline, your baggage fees and rules may be determined by the other airline. Please check your ticket, or call Alaska Airlines Reservations at 1-800-252-7522 to help determine which airline rules and fees apply to your journey.

When making international connections on a separate ticket to other airlines within twelve (12) hours of arriving in the connection city, you may follow the baggage allowance and weight restrictions of the international airline - provided a ticketing and baggage agreement is in place between Alaska Airlines and the other carrier.

If you are booking both legs through Alaska, I would expect to only pay one fee. If you're booking the two flights separately (two different confirmation numbers), then I would expect to pay for both legs.

If they are booking it for you, it's just the one fee.

If you went to Alaska's site and booked that, then went to American's website and booked that, you'd have to pay twice (and go outside of the secure area to get it, then check it, then go through security).

^^ I agree, if you bought the entire roundtrip on one airline website, there will only be one fee. You can also ask when checking in to be sure. RARELY would you collect your bags during a layover and recheck them. You would also have to go through security screening again. The only way I see that happening is if you bought a ticket as though your final destination was Dallas and then you booked another ticket from Dallas to Orlando. Highly unlikely you did that.
