We booked a diect flight from Winnipeg to Orlando. We happened to check our flights online and they were changed (no email notification, no nothing) to going through Toronto and arriving in Orlando at 11:00 p.m. with two little kids.

We are currently looking to change our flights to United airlines.

At the very least this is costing us a lot of time and headache and not sure how much $$ yet.

It's probably in your fine print that they can do this, but I'd raise cain like no other with the CR. Ask to speak to the manager and see what kind of a credit you can get. They owe you at least that!

Op I am sorry for what happened... Airlines actually sell you carriage from point A to B, they can change how they get you there at their discretion. However; I believe if there's more than a 2 hour (or is it 4?) difference from your original plans to the new booked flight they are obliged to refund your money *if* you ask.

We had to do that with Delta once... your flights changed so much they gave a full refund and we actually booked a cheaper flight.

That's awful. I've heard horror stories about American carriers doing things like that, but had never heard about a Canadian airline doing it.

We were able to cancel at no charge. We cancelled our flight to WDW and booked with United. It cost us $10 more but we will have to pay for luggage now too. Better than arriving at 11:00 p.m. and having screaming kids.

Our only options were to change our days or to fly through Toronto with the late arrival time.

To complain we have to write to them. I am sure it will be filed under "g".

Somebody else I know who was going checked her flights for over Christmas and hers were changed too. Now she is going to fly on days they have non-stop flights which cuts her WDW vacation down to 7 days from 9.

I can't believe they would just eliminate a non-stop flight. I also can't believe we were not notified.

This was our first time booking YWG to MCO on Westjet. Not a nice experience.

Westjet employees are also 'owners'. If it impacts their bottom line, they'll make the changes. They are getting bigger and starting to act like AC these days to where I can't really tell that much of a difference anymore.

While I generally like WJ, I've never really found them to be any different than the other airlines I routinely fly.

We also fly from the west (out of Edmonton) and so far United has been our airline of choice. We get the early 6:40 out and are there by 4:00 or so with a 1 hour connection in Denver.:)

Do take the time to write to them. I had an issue with a WestJet flight on Jan. 1 2006. The captain on the flight suggested that we write a letter when we got home outlining what had happened. I did. He said we could even quote his name. Within a week I had a phone call from their customer service department asking for more details and making sure that they understood my concerns. My family and I were given a full credit for both the flight to Orlando and home to be used within a year on any WestJet flight. The credit was worth $2600.00. To say I was pleased would be an understatement.

I am surprised they didn't e-mail you because in the past when we flew with WestJet if there was a flight change we were always e-mailed.

I am sorry that that happened to you! I would also suggest that you write to them. We have had only one problem with them like this. DH and I took a trip to Vegas, and on our return flight that was originally direct, they changed it, and we ended up with a connection in Edmonton. We arrived in Edmonton at around 1am, with a connection at 6:30 am!!!:scared1: Terrible! They ended up refunding half our flights and giving us food vouchers for the airport.

Definately follow up with WJ if you are not happy with their service.
We had a flight delay when going to Vegas last fall..they gave both my dh & I a credit to use in one year. (Fast forward to August..those credits are taking me to Vegas again :-) )

Same thing happened to us with Air Canada. I was so miffed for days!!! I was looking forward to a direct flight with kids almost as much as Disney itself. They wouldn't refund us because one of the tickets was purchased with Aeroplan points. So mad, and so sorry for you.

After hours on the phone over three days everything has been sorted.
The director of booking got involved because we got nowhere on the regular phone. They are giving our travel bank $$ to us plus a credit of $100. I think somehow we were given $300 but it is so confusing. We have to check our credit card statements carefully.

We still have not had our flight home confirmed. The agent told us "you shouldn't have a problem at the airport". Excuse me? *eye roll*

I had this happen for my flight down last January...no notification...just happened to routinely check my itinerary out of old habit...and yup a big change..flying out a day later (when I only had 3.5 days there to begin with)...although the gentleman I spoke with a WJ was very apologetic and offered to change to another flight a day earlier than what I had planned but that didnt work so they credited me the whole flight...then rebooked with AirCanada/Sunwing

Thanks to the op for the heads up on the WJ changes. After I read this post I checked my flights and sure enough we were now getting into Orlando on the 11pm flight. I too have little kids and this is really unacceptable, given that I purposefully booked a direct flight.
We had booked thru airmiles so I had to go thru them for the changes and luckily we were able to leave a day earlier on a direct flight. Hopefully that won't change between now and February, but I won't hold my breath.

lcvb,

wow, I wonder how many other people have had flights changed and have no clue! I guess WJ never bothered to send out any emails about the changes. Shame on them.

Glad you were able to change to a flight that worked for you. Your flight home was okay?

Yes our return flight was ok. It was moved up by 1 hour and it wasn't direct to start with so as long as we get off the ship on time we should be fine. We're sailing on the new Disney Dream ship in February. :yay:

BTW we are in Winnipeg also!! Thanks again for your post.
