Just for fun I checked our state's unclaimed property search, and sure enough DH was on there twice. Once for <$10 for a utility deposit and once for >$100 for Travelzoo. I had no idea where the money from Travelzoo came from until DH remembered that they had a promotion where if you signed up for their site they gave you 3 shares like 10 years ago. :confused3 The man can't remember what he had for lunch today but that he remembers...

So I researched it a bit and sure enough Travelzoo paid a multi-state settlement last year for these shares. No idea how much money it is worth, have to wait for it come in the mail, but at least we know it is over $100. IL classifies the amounts as <$10, $10-100, or >$100. Nice for just signing up for a site that I don't think he ever used! LOL

Check your state database!

Just checked and nothing for my household, but my boyfriends dad has $100 waiting for him lol

Well, what do you know? I found two things.. one for me and one for my father (who's deceased). Don't know dollar amounts, but I'm filing.

Thanks for the tip!

My son once got about $110 (uncashed payroll checks, several in very small amounts). (Same home address and home phone for 18 years, yet they never contacted him by mail or phone)

Then we were in the paper last year, to our shock (same home address and phone number for 19 years). Again, they obviously never tried to contact us about it. We never did even figure out what it WAS, it said state refund, pr premium refund. It was for about $230.

So it can be very strange….. and :thumbsup2

Holy moly -- I found something of mine! It could just be $1, but it is something from my previous address from over 12 years ago! lol

Thanks for this great idea! :)

Just checked mine, $520 and $48 unclaimed from Life insurance from when my mom passed in 2000. $40 from a final paycheck in 2006. Printed the forms and mailing out later today. Couldn't have come at a better time, using it to spoil the grandbaby I found out yesterday will be here in August!!!

Thanks for this! I have something too - the range was 10-100, don't know the exact amount, but I'll take it! If it's only $10.00 - it buys a bag of groceries!!

Just for fun I searched my mom's maiden name and found her long lost uncle's name out there. Since he died about a decade ago it appears it belongs to my grandfather. He and GF were estranged and GF is not interested in claiming it so it's going to sit there a little longer but at least we know it's there now.

Nothing for me or DH, but my mom, stepdad, FIL and exhusband all had money!

I told them all they owe me a cut.

My DH got about $600 a couple of years ago that was left behind by his deceased father ...... I think it was overpaid utilities. It did take several months to get the money, with death certificates and all. Still, worth the work.

Just checked mine - I have a whopping .21 cents unclaimed dividend from the Walt Disney Co., LOL. I think I'll let Mickey keep it. :thumbsup2

I've got a $50 one waiting for me, but they require "proof" that I lived at that address. Problem is it was 12 years ago, and I was staying with my mom at her apartment while I fought with my ex-roommates to get my stuff out of the apartment (they changed the locks while I was at work one day because I'd told the leasing office about the menagerie they had in the apartment ... 5 snakes, a dozen spiders, a dog, an iguana, and 2 bearded dragons ... I love critters, but that is *NOT* what I had bargained for when I moved in). So yeah, guess that's $50 I won't be getting :(

I got $30 last year. Had to jump through some hoops and wait about 6 months but hey, it's $30!

Yippe, I found $7.40... better than a kick in the pants, I suppose. :rotfl:

I have about $10 waiting for me if I can find all the documentation they want for me to claim it (copy of social security card, marriage license, something documenting my old address.)
