I just happened to check it and it dropped from $176 to $156, Oct 1 to 6, EA Intermediate, Disney Club, $15 Ent Coupon.

This happened on my May reservation, it started around $185 and it kept dropping until it was $121 when we went. Somehow the final receipt was only $110! I hope this one keeps dropping!

Thanks Debbie. I just changed my reservations for our September and October trips. This is the 3rd time the rates have dropped so far. Maybe that $110 is a possibility :D

I got a reduction too! Went from 169 to 151 for 9/1-9/8! Will have to keep checking...

Debbie,
Do they ask for the DC when you get the car?

I always hand them the card with my other cards (Visa, EC, License), I've never tried not giving it to them.

Gail - your countdown is getting short. Have a great time!

Thanks Deb, I hope to. :)

I called the station manager in Orlando and she said they don't even ask for the DC card when you use EA/ER, if it goes in, it is fine with them. So, I managed to shave 21.00 my rental this way.
The mgr. said if they give me any trouble to ask for her. I have her name, she is really nice. I simply cannot find my card and it would take too long to get a new one. My rental for 8 days, full size, ER with all taxes is now 167.31 ( I modified my old one).
Thanks for the heads up, Deb.

Hey Gail,

Great rate! Is that for 8 days, as in being charged for 1 week plus 1 day? My res is this way for 9/28 to 10/6 (Sun to following Mon) and I can't get it any lower than $191.20, all in. That's using DC and vacation outlet $15 coupon for EA, intermediate size car.

Am I missing something?? I'd sure love to save another $30. Let me know if you have any other tips.

Thanks!:smooth:

Sue

last time we rented at orlando. they asked me for the DC card....go figure....maybe we can extend this after the expiration of DC if Gail is "successful" since if you do not need the card just the code you can benefit from the "discount", especially if one has "supported" DC for all these years

when we rented in baltimore at the first of august, with my experience in orlando, i automatically gave him my DC card, which he just gave back to me saying he did not need it, but then he noticed that there was a DC discount on my reservation .....and the "light bulb" went on ...he said now i know why you gave me the DC card

Sue,

My reservation is for 9/27-10/6 and the total is $154, intermediate on the EA. I had the same rate for a full size, but different dates (that they would NOT let me modify  ) I made the reservation back in March, whien the rates were low...I plugged in all the possible combinations of dates I could think of, LOL!

I used the DC, $20 entertainment book, and used the Emerald Club portion of the site.

Yes, it is a week plus one day. It is an old reservation, I made it in April. I was able to modify it and add a day a week or so ago, and keep the original rate plus a day and then today I modified it again using the DC code. I combined that with BJ's coupon for 20.00 off that, get this, National handed back to me last Feb.
I would not have used the DC code if I had not spoken to the station manager at National in Orlando. She told me "no problem about not having the card" and if I did have a problem to tell them that (her name) told me it was ok and if they have a problem with that to call her. She has my name and she is very very nice. She even told me about the fact that National and Alamo have been sold to a holding company effective Oct. 1.

Lawgs, never would have done it without the card unless I was assured by the mgr. that it would be ok and that they don't ask for the card. Extend, now, that would be a hoot. :)

Thanks! I just saved $24 for an 8 day EA rental in early November. I'll keep checking. It's still going to cost us $186 because we just booked in late June. The October ressie made in the spring (that had to be cancelled) was for $50 less, so it sure seems to pay off to book early. Nothing to lose, I guess, since you can always cancel.

I have been having wonderful success modifying reservations. It appears whatever little "glitch" they had has been fixed. I think I have modified this present reservation about 4 times. :)

I'll have to remember to try to modify it next time. I thought that I did and it didn't work, but maybe I just assumed it wouldn't. It was a couple months ago, and I cancelled it after I rebooked. I know I called and they insisted they couldn't modify it without the higher rate coming up.

Yes, that used to be the case. But, I recently added a day and it stayed the same, with the additional day at the original rate, of course. Then, I changed codes and it dropped. Give it a try, they do give you the option of keeping the original.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I guess I should have booked it earlier to get the better rate. Next time I'll be quicker, just in case.

Sue

Thought you might find my experience at the national site interesting. After reading this thread, I decided to re-ck the rates for my upcoming trip in Sept.

Back in April, I reserved a compact (just me & my sister going) from 9/29 - 10/4, using AARP discount. Base week was $139.99 less discounts came to $163.92 total. Put everything in just now and the compact rates goes UP! So I priced an intermed/EA using AARP & now entertainment cpn qualifies (for intermed) and the total rate comes to $179.51.

So my question to all you EA veterans is, is it worth the extra $16 for EA or should I take the compact/Emerald Reserve? We did use EA in March and got an Intrepid which was nice. I can't remember the GM car that a compact is.

Thanks,
Nancy

The benchmark for a compact is a Chevy Cavalier. If it's just you and your sister and you don't have much luggage, you could probably get by with a compact.

Try modifing your existing reservation for an intermediate. See what happens then.

Thanks Debbie B. I just went back in and reserved a full size for 10/23-10/29 for $158 including all fees. Previously, I had a full size reserved for $188 and a mid size for $147. When I tried a mid size the rate was $146. I cancelled my full size for $188, and will keep the full at $158 and the mid at $147 and, of course, keep checking. Probably for just $10 more, I'll keep the full size. But if I could get the midsize down to $120+/- who knows? Wishful thinking...
