We breezed into the Alamo car return and they promptly printed an invoice for me and pointed me to the elevators. After hurriedly gathering our carry on bags and such, and heading to the terminal, I glanced at my receipt and was shocked to see that they were charging me $1200 more than my contract amount. Can you say U-TURN! Got to the kiosks and after 20 minutes of time that I really hadn't planned on, the error was corrected.

Probably just an honest mistake. Check those invoices folks.

I haven't had this large of a mistake but I have had several 'wrong' charges from Car Rentals through the years. Several double billings (corrected with a phone call), some wrong rates (corrected with a phone call). I usually book online and always print out and keep our contract so I have proof of our rate.

LOL. One time I booked on line for pick up at The Swan...go in to get our car and the attendee gives me a rate about double of what I have. I said "here's my contract it this amount" He says " that not what I'm showing". I say "It's right here on my contract."

This honestly went back and forth for several minutes (with many people in line behind me) He finally realizes I'm not backing down and says "okay, I guess I can do that price" Really!!!! It's the contract I had.

I'm sure other people have done fine through Alamo at The Swan but in the 3 times we rented from there, we had the above scenerio and the other 2 times we were double billed.

Like the OP said, watch your invoices.

last three times i rented at alamo (2 at MCO 1 hawaii) they charged me more then what my contract said when i returned the car. they did change the price to the original contract price after discussion. seems as if this is becoming a standard practice.

Just to be clear...the Alamo counter is at the Dolphin, not the Swan. I have rented there many times, and have yet to have an issue.
Although, we did have an issue when my dh returned our car one time..he didn't look at the receipt and just walked away (I wasn't with him and he was in a hurry to put WDW behind him!!). When I looked at the charge, to my checking account, it was about $30 more than my contract stated. A quick email to them got a credit to my account.
But we shouldn't have to double check..the amounts should be right the first time...the companies need to stop trying to make a few extra dollars on each person..hoping no one looks or that they decide it's just not worth the effort.

You should always check your receipt/contract before you leave. We ran into this issue with Hertz and will NEVER rent from them again. They added an "upgrade" fee of $70.00. We saw it once we were in the car. We tried to correct it with one attendant while still at the airport without success make a long story short, they have refused to make any adjustment so we refuse to rent from Hertz ever again

We're even with Alamo.

Our first time using them, we ended up with a cheaper rate at the counter than we had on our confirmation  . The desk agent couldn't figure out why the rate code was coming up with a lower price than our printed confirmation (it was about $15 cheaper :confused3), so we ended up with the better rate. Yay for Alamo :thumbsup2 .

On our most recent visit, for some reason our coupon didn't get applied at pick up, making our total payable almost $30 more. Had to call Alamo (thanks to gmeh1 for posting the number for the MCO location) and have them adjust their records so we weren't tying up time when the vehicle was dropped off. They had no explanation for what occured but offered their apologies for the issue (which seemed genuine). As long as they made it right, I was totally okay with it.
