If you are using a particular credit card - especially for a rental car and expect to do the quick return - check you credit card's expiration date. I was ordering a fruit basket when I noticed my card was expiring while we were going to be away and had not received a new one yet. I called the credit card company and had a card shipped 2-day air. :thumbsup2

Always a good idea. Its a good to know when all your cards expire so you will know when new ones are coming in the mail. Several years ago, I had one stolen out of my mailbox. Credit card company called after it had tried to be used.

Also, if you plan on using Discover, let them know ahead of time that you will be travelling, especially Florida. In February on our Disney Cruise I left my Discover number with them for ship board charges. When it came time for Disney to run the card, Discover had shut the card down for potential "fraud"...I had to call to have the card reinstated. They explained that we had unusual activity outside our normal area. I asked them if it occured to them that I might actually take the cruise I paid for with Discover in September??? It's a little embarassing when your card is "declined".

This is an excellent piece of advice, expecially if you are travelling at the beginning of the month. For example, if your credit card expires on September 30, and you are set to check in on October 1, your credit card will come up invalid or declined. Make sure to check that expiration date prior to traveling!

It's not only Discover. Chase Visa did this to me once too. I charged my flight and room to the card months earlier, and then I tried to charge some little souvenier in World Showcase and the guy tells me my card was declined. I had to go look for a pay phone because this was before I had a cell phone and explain that yes, I was in Disney. You would think that they would look back and see plane tickets and the resort on there and put 2+2 together. When I got home there was a message from them on my voicemail, but I didn't get it because I was in WDW, and the fact that I didn't answer also should have tipped them off. I know it's for my own good, but it's embarrasing!

at a travel agency. I was booking a very last minute trip to Mexico, and gave the TA my card.... and it was declined!! I was so surprised, and the TA let me call the 1-800 # on the back of the card. When they told me it was expired, I just had them go ahead and activate the new one (which DH had put in his glove compartment of his car for some odd reason!!). Then the transaction went through!!! It was a good thing that it was easy to take care of because I was booking on a Monday for my whole family to leave the following Sunday!!!! The TA and I both laughed because neither of us noticed the exp. date!!!:rotfl2:
