Stayed in a ground floor studio this month. I always check the locks and was surprised to find that the patio door and connecting door were both unlocked. Just think if I hadn't checked we could have had some kids bouncing on our bed in the morning.

Don't the housekeeping supervisors do a room check after cleaning?

If they do, do they work off a check list?

Interesting. I tend to check the locks in any room I'm in when I am traveling.

This reminded me of when we were at HH last summer. There was a problem with the carpet and it needed to be cleaned really bad (was there when we checked in). We came back to our villa to find 3 housekeepers working on the carpet. Not wanting to get in their way, we all went outside on the balcony. One of the housekeepers wanted to let us know they were just about done and came out to tell us so. Then we see them packing their stuff up to leave, figure it's okay to go back inside and we can't get in. The housekeeper locked the door after she was finished talking to us. A couple of bangs on the glass and they unlocked it but we laughed thinking about what we would have done if they left before we tried the door. So, yes, some housekeepers do have it instilled in them to lock the door.

We always check locks and in non-disney hotels add our own. I've had someone break in my room at night while I was in it using their key. Fortunately I had the door blocked with a chair and it woke me up. It also woke me up to the potential.

Checking the locks is a good tip.

On the flip side....

Back when my family still vacationed together, we used to do an annual Labor Day trip to Panama City Beach, diving for the guys, tanning for the women. Its a total party weekend for most people and I've seen some pretty crazy stuff but one night my cousin, 14 at the time, and a friend of hers that came along that year, woke up in the middle of the night with a passed out, nude female in the bed with them. She hadn't locked the sliding door on a ground floor beach front roof and a severely impaired 19 year old mistook their room for hers. Anyway, she called her dad, my uncle, 2 rooms down and they called the front desk and the cops. They couldn't do anything 'til a female officer got there since she was completely nude, then she got up and locked herself in the bathroom and took a shower. The next morning she was passed out, nude again, sleeping in a lounge chair beside the pool. My uncle just kept saying that was supposed to have been his room:D .

Don't get ammenities like that at WDW....;)

We checked into the BCV last July 8, just a week after it had opened. Going back to our room the second day, we found out the lock was un-locked! I thought I was going crazy, and we kept trying to lock the door. A call to the front desk brought a maintenance man who made me think I was going nuts, as he was able to lock the door. Many calls and more "suits" to our room, it was determined they had installed the lock backwards!!!
Now I always check the door when we leave to make sure it really did lock.

We always make sure to dead bolt lock and put the swing lock over anytime we come into the room. It always amazes me when people post that the maid came in while they were "busy" ;) . Lock the door first!

MAN!!!!

Can't get busy on the balcony at OKW cause they whacked all the trees down now you can't even get busy in your own room for Consuela busting in wanting to trash and towel your room....
