Yep just a couple hours ago, I think it's a Hawk. We're up in Marion County and the birds started to go nuts around our neighborhood late this afternoon. I've never seen a bird that large so close up (except at Silver Springs) he hung out for awhile and then flew off.

Thanks for the picture! I'm a devoted bird watcher and had lots of fun trying to figure out what that was. I'm not at all good identifying hawks, but I THINK it was either a Sharp-shinned Hawk or Cooper's Hawk. It's always so exciting when those big hawks come in your yard. And like the previous poster implied, with Wilma coming lots of birds are getting pushed away from the storm.

It may be a Sharped-Shinned Hawk. This is a photo I took of one in my yard back in Massachusetts.

It is defineately a member of the hawk family, I have a red tail that frequents my yard.........although they are beautiful and awesome I hate to see them since they usually end up killing one of the squirrels or the doves! One was sitting on my phone line the other day and the mockingbirds were dive bombing it apparently it was to close to their nest, they are very brave little birds!

I can't see the tail, which is one way to differentiate them. BUT, because of your location, I would be more inclined to say it's a Cooper's Hawk.

We used to live on the river and had a house with alot of glass facing the water. Once we heard a loud thump. A hawk hit our window with a smaller bird in his claws. He then flew to a post on the deck where he munched out.
