Notes and observations after a recent visit to Walt Disney World:

The Walt Disney Company is world famous for its ability to make make-believe believable.

But something we observed recently on the Walt Disney World property seems to have taken the art of illusion to another level.

While strolling through the Yacht Club Resort last week (actually, we were headed to the restroom after lunch), we noticed that there was a small room off the main hallway with several telephones attached to the wall ... you know, the old-fashioned, plop in a few coins and dial the numbers while balancing the receiver on your shoulder devices.

Strange, we thought, that in this day and age, where just about everyone carries his or her own personal communications device, that there’s still an area devoted to those seemingly antiquated phones.

It became a lot stranger when we walked back out into the main hallway and noticed that there were four elevator doors.

Nothing unusual, right? But upon closer inspection, though, there are actually just three working elevators.

The fourth door is actually a faux door that — if opened, you'd be able to walk right straight into the telephone room!

Only at Disney.

If you are trying to figure out which elevators are elevators and which ones are fake without looking for the payphone area, there is a secret! All elevator doors have a little hole on the upper left hand corner. This is a type of keyhole to open the doors in case of an emergency. The elevator doors that don't have this hole are the fakes!

i'm actually surprised that the 'fakes' dont have the key hole. Not that i expect that level of detail- but more that i would have assumed it would just have een easiest/cheapest when building to say "hey otis, when you put in the other doors just give us another set and slap it over there in front of that wall". P

Pretty interesting that they bothered to find the same metal and fabricate it to look the same.

I guess under certain conditions it would be cheaper to just copy the originals.
