I've been intending to post something about Menards, and was just reminded about it by another thread about reusable grocery bags.
The last few months, I've been really getting some good FAR deals at Menards. For years, I seldom went there -- it's not super close to my house and it's in an area that's not where I go by a lot. But, I've lately been going there every few weeks to take advantage of some free after rebate deals.
Just this week, I got those reusable grocery shopping bags FAR ($.98 each, limit 10), 4 cannisters of **** n span disposable wipes (FAR), a set of car floor mats (FAR- cheap platic ones true, but nice to put on top of the carpeted floor mats in this messy weather), a 3-piece paint brush set (FAR), and 2 spot-stain remover thingies (FAR), and a few other misc things, very cheap after rebates.
The rebates are in the form of a merchandise credit; the rebates are very easy to submit (you do have to fill out a form for each, but you can mail them all in the same envelope), and they do get processed fairly quick -- I would say I get the rebate in about 2 weeks.
A few weeks ago, I got 4 twin packs of those sticky lint remover rollers FAR- something I definitely use with a dog that sheds a lot.
I have to watch myself that I don't just get stuff because it's free (because you do pay tax on it you know, and that can add up), but a lot of the stuff I get, I CAN use -- even though I might not necessarily NEED it at this time.
In the past, I have noticed that it sometimes says that you must spend $10 on other purchases to take advantage of the FAR items. But this week's ad didn't state that requirement. Even so, I have not had a problem spending $10 in the past, as I sometimes get items that are "almost free" after rebates, or I buy light bulbs, which are really cheap there. I have also found that the ice-melting salt for driveways, sidewalks, etc. are much cheaper there then at other stores.
I just wanted to mention Menards here on the budget boards, because I don't recall anyone talking about them here.
