We arrived this past Sunday at the BWV's at 10:30 am. I was not expecting our room to be ready so after checking in, storing our groceries and luggage, we received the card to call back to check and took off to Epcot. At around 2pm I called and was told it was almost done..they were just finishing up and should only be about 15 more minutes. So my family and I headed back to the BWV's. Room wasn't ready but was told again should be any minute, so we hung around- hit the Community Hall- had a drink at Leaping Horse and called back again in about an hour. Still not ready. Long aggravating story later we were offered a room to "shower" in at 5pm. Not our room but ANOTHER room to use! We declined and we were finally told our room was ready about 6pm that night.

6pm seemed to me a bit late to get into our room but what aggravated me the most was being told it was "almost" ready at 2pm. Being told to "use" another room to "shower" in was just well...kinda strange!

Your thoughts???

I would of been a tad upset. i have noticedour check in time has been getting later and later with every trip. I would send them an email and express your feelings on this matter. Maybe if more of us did that things would get back on track.

Sorry to hear this happened to yu and I wish I could say it was an off day but we all know it is due to being under staffed

I wonder if the housekeeper came across something "odd" about your room that took longer than usual to correct. Maybe the carpet needed to be steam cleaned or someone smoked in the room and it needed a special cleaning?

FWIW, Sunday has more check ins than any other day of the week. I expect to wait until at least 4 pm f we check in on a Sunday. That doesn't excuse the bad info, though.

Sorry you had to wait and very sorry you were given bad information. Hope your future check in experiences turn out better.

I think that happened to us at VB, because we didn't get a room until 5:30. When I called in the 2nd time on the way back from the grocery, they said it still wasn't ready, but I was put on hold for awhile, and then told to come back to the front desk and they gave us new room keys. So something was going on with the room that we were supposed to get. The one we did get just had the carpet cleaned.

This was Easter weekend, so the room must have 1. had one of our late stayers 2. They really trashed the room or 3. Mousekeeping was shorthanded.

For WDW stays, got the room at checkin 3 times(SSR,VWL and BCV). Had to wait at SSR once(called and room was ready at 3pm).

Hey JJ

That is aggravating, for sure. We had similar experience a while ago. We were also told that the room was almost ready. But we waited and called back in an hour and it still wasn't ready. I think we got in at around 5 (not as bad as your situation), but I guess my experience taught me to not believe them!

Sorry it took so long to get your room.....I would be annoyed as well.
You could have still been at Epcot.

We were lucky at BWV 2 weeks ago my room was ready at 2. I was very happy. We checked in on a thurs though....I think it is a big checkout day because of the cruises.
Better luck next time.

Yes, I would have been upset :headache: , and I'd probably send something in writing. The only way things can change is if we praise the behavior we hope to see and inform them of things that didn't meet expectations.

I have been able to check in as early as 7:30 in the morning and as late as 4:00 on the dot. However, my expectation is that I can get in at 4:00. If I couldn't, which is Disney's service level agreement, I would be upset. They didn't meet their promise. I know things come up, but they could have done something to compensate you, which I think they should have.

Sorry about your experience. That's not the best way to kick off a trip that you've been waiting on for months!!! :sad2:

jiggerj,
5:00 is aggravating. 6:00 is not acceptable. In my book you should have been offered a courtesy perk of some kind. Once when this happened to us at OKW we were given a $50 room credit. We did not even ask for it. Sorry this happened to you.

Our room on our last trip wasn't ready until nearly 6:00, and that's the first time it's ever happened. Once doesn't upset me (much), but I'd hate to see it become a common occurrence. We ended up heading off to dinner at Epcot for a 5:30 meal with tired, "unwashed" kids and didn't really get settled into the villa until about bedtime. The kids were, as usual, happy just to be at WDW, but the adults weren't thrilled with the late room - there were 8 people in our group.

A few rooms unready by 4:00 is one thing; a LOT of rooms not ready by 4:00 means there's something amiss with housekeeping.

I think that I will write a letter. I didn't put up too much of a fuss as I was just thrilled to get in our room. I was told finally that they had a new housekeeper and that she was a bit slow. :headache: Not sure I believe that or not...???? I was a bit surpised at the offer to "shower" if we like in another room. Wouldn't housekeeping have to go in after to clean the shower and replace the towels for the next guest? I would be a little miffed if I thought that another guest was temporarily using my bathroom!

Hey there Muushka! :darth: Will I be able to see you in Oct. for a re-match? ;)

Wow, we got nothing! (Not that I would have "expected" any money.) I spoke (politely) to a manager to let him know we thought this just wasn't acceptable. I barely got an apology. I did, however, write a letter. Even an offer of somewhere to freshen up would have been welcome.

The room they were offering was probably a hotel room in the BWI. I remember a post similar to yours where the family was given a BWI room to use for a few hours to shower and relax until their BWV room was ready.

I was told that the room was just across the hall from my standard view room. :confused3 :)

We've always been pretty lucky getting into our rooms with hardly any waiting. However our trip to OKW this past fall we had to keep calling just to be told "not yet" over and over. Finally at 5:30 DH decided to go back in person to see what the hold up was. The CM at the desk checked and told him both rooms had actually been ready for a few hours. I don't understand why they gave us the wrong info each time we called. We were wondering if possibly they get annoyed with the calls? The girl at check in seemed confused about it as well. I'm sorry the OP had to deal with such confusion just when their trip was starting. I hope they had a great time in spite of the problems.

The number they give you to call is a central switchboard, all they do is look at a computer screen. That's why if you insist on an answer or ask for the manager they have to transfer you. Always get the front desk number to call back, not the number they give you on the card. They don't get anoyed with your calling to check because the cm that answers the phone does nothing else all day but answer that phone they can't really help you no matter how upset or angry you get so just ask to be transfered. I don't see the check in times getting any better what's more likely to happen is DVC will change the check in or check out time by an hour. They'll need to get people out sooner or in later or raise our dues to pay for more house keeping. I don't mind checking in around 5 if I know I 'll have to wait, I want a clean room that meets some of my requests after 6pm is too late. Having said that the misinformation given to OP is not acceptable. I would rather stand in line for Soarin or some other ride than sit in the lobby, so just tell me the room is not ready, I usually just throw my bags in the room and head out then put my things away when we get back at night, if I want to get changed before the room is ready they will provide a place.

It sounds like they had an unassigned preferred room available. It was nice of them to offer it. We went through a similar wait on our last stay at BWV. We waited... and waited... and went out for dinner and came back and it still wasn't ready at 7pm! BWV was fully booked so moving us to another room (even for a short time) wasn't an option. A very nice front desk CM investigated and discovered that housekeeping had skipped our room. She dispatched a cleaning crew to get the room cleaned ASAP and we finally got in at 8pm after another delay due to the cleaning crew not reporting back when they finished cleaning. Fortunately things ended on a good note when we got into the room -- it was the best room we've ever had at BWV!

We had a great time DisneyFreaks- thank you for asking- Of course once you are settled in your room all is forgotton and its on with the show! :)

I agree fishermouse- Just tell me if the room is really ready or not. :sad2: I left some good friends during an OK show only to find us meandering around. ALTHOUGH I was able to enjoy Leaping Horse and now have vast experience with the Community Hall thanks to my 8yr. old son! :):thumbsup2

Yikes 7pm! LisaS That is really late!

When I was at Bell Services they told me that members were guaranteed
check in at 4pm. They were quite surprised when I kept "dipping" in my stored luggage for a bathing suit and was not able to check in yet.

Though I haven't stayed at BWV many times, it does seem that, in my experience, they are the worst of the DVC resorts at getting guests into their rooms on time. I'm sure there are plenty of "I've stayed at BWV XX times and never had a problem" folks, but in my 3 times, they've been late twice.

Just curious to what is considered "late"? Sometimes I have my room ready at check in :cool1: or 2-3pm. But I have never had 6pm before! :(

Sorry you had such a time getting into your room.

I think check in is the most aggravating time at DVC. That's why I try to keep my check ins to a minimum.

Once im in, im in. I dont like moving because I dont like the "limbo" feeling of not having a room.

I did notice that our confirmations now say check in after 4pm:confused: :scared1:
