This March we rushed to get our luggage and ourselves on a 6:30 am flight, and we stayed at the MCO Hyatt! Next trip could we do the check-in thing late the night before to avoid this? Thanks in advance.

No. The airlines are not supposed to accept luggage that would be held overnight in a regular operation. There is really no area to keep it, and with all the security, it would not be allowed .

I believe they will not accept luggage more than 4 hours in advance. A guy I work with had a late night flight from Las Vegas, he and his wife tried to go standby on an afternoon flight but they didn't get on. He wanted to leave his luggage at the airport for the late night flight and go back to the strip but they would not let him, he had to take the luggage back to the hotel and check it, the hotel wasn't far from the airport. This was before 9/11.

In Orlando (even before 9/11) we were told that we could not check our luggage more than four hours in advance. We wanted to check it and then go to WDW for a few hours before our flight, but we ended up having to rent a locker. I'm sure they are even more strict now.
