My family will be traveling from the Universal Resorts to the Yacht Club on a Sunday this July and I have a question about check in. I know that the 'official' check in time is 3:00 pm, and we want to possibly do some of Epcot that day before check-in, but I have read some posts about not getting the type of room you want if you wait until later in the day to check in. This is important for us because we have requested connecting rooms (we have two reservations) since we have 2 kids (ages 17 and 11) staying in a room by themselves and it is pretty much a must that we have at least adjoining rooms if connecting is not available. On my reservation confirmation it actually said "connecting rooms guaranteed" but I have read on some posts here that the timing of the check in is a factor. Any advice is appreciated!!!!

I would check-in as early as you can, it only takes a few minutes. You can walk from Epcot to the Yacht Club. Only 1 person needs to be there, you could even split up and meet later.
