I was wondering if anybody had checked in by not leaving a credit card number but actually ask them to charge the card with a certain amount for resort charging?

Is this possible?:confused3

I apologize if I didn't express my question clearly. Basically:

When I check in, I would like to know if I could ask them to charge a certain about (ie. $100) to my credit card. This amount will show up as a credit in my account at the resort. So when I charge to the resort, it will deplete this amount. At check out, I would get the balance refunded to my credit card.

Does that make sense?

nope..still don't understand. What's the difference in doing it this way and not just the normal way of charging to your room with a cc?

Sorry, I guess I should have said that I do not want to leave my cc number on file. I know it's not common, but I don't want them to charge my cc before I have authorized it. I had a problem with a mistake that the system had and charged my DDP plan again sometime in the middle of my stay. I had such a hard time getting this reimbursed and even then, because of foreign exchange rates, I didn't get the full amount until I took it up with my cc company.

Also, if I wanted to keep my spending to a minimum, I could put a limit for myself. I know that if you go over the limit that they give you (around $1500), they will charge it to your account and then start over. Don't get me wrong, I don't get to that point and I'm not necessarily limiting my amount since I am the only one who charges and I'm pretty tight with it.

But I guess my goal is to not allow the resort to charge my cc anything in the middle of my visit until I check out so I can go over everything and before they charge anything to my cc, I can make sure there are no errors. I have used my cc for every time before that incident. So in my attempt to be proactive, I have used cash/traveller's cheques and are now figuring out if I can still use my cc without having them charge it without my knowledge.

What you experienced is rare (thankfully). But with any system, there will be occasinal human or system errors.

I don;t think there is any way to allow charging privileges without leaving a CC on file.

Be aware that ticket purchases, the DDP and Dinner Shows (if you get last minute reservations) will be an immediate charge out to the CC on file, there is no lag time on account for those charges.

You can get a printout daily of your charges, if you like, to monitor the transactions. Or you can simply not authorize room charging, by not leaving a CC on file. You can take your card with you to the parks and use it for the individual transactions.

When you check in, you are authorizing them to collect payment (via credit card) for any charges you incur. Typically this is on the morning you check out, unless your account goes over the credit limit for that resort. They are NOT going to charge your card $100 at check in and not keep your card # on file, lol!

If there's an error on your bill when you look at it that moning, simply call them from the room so they can take it off and issue a credit. I honestly don't understand the paranoia here. The way the credit card is handled is standard practice at every hotel I've visited - not just Disney.

The ideal and common scenerio is exactly this: leave a cc number for resort charging and then if there are any discrepancies, contact front desk and have them correct it. Yes, definitely and we have done this quite a few times. However, as I mentioned in my previous post, we had a problem with this method. I understand that my experience in uncommon but it does happen and it happened to me. And since I do not want to go through that again, I have decided to find other means. I don't believe being proactive in trying to prevent possible problems would be considered paranoia. I find it very important to address any possible problems beforehand. With that in mind, I just asked if it was possible. If not, I can always go back to providing cash/travellers cheques.;)

But I suppose everyone is different. I, myself, believe in booking ADRs ahead of time in order that we have a plan place to dine instead of just walking in, while others like to wing it. I don't think they would consider me paranoid, just like I don't consider them irresponsible. This is simply not true.

I had a problem with charging at disney too. I had a one night VWL cash reservation an then moved to AKV. When I received my CC bill at home I was charged for 2 nights at the lodge. I had to make a couple of calls and one cast member actually told me that I did in fact stay at the lodge the second night. (like I wouldn't know where I stayed). Anyhoo.....eventually it got taken care of but it did take some time.

I understand where you are coming from, but think it can not be done.

Good luck.

I had a similar problem, where they charged me cash for a points stay. They corrected it at check out, but it took over 45 minutes because they were so confused.

I understand things happen, but there's nothing wrong with trying to prevent some things that I know can happen. I would rather spend the time doing it now, than on my vacation.
